I recently wanted to figure out what is the perfect rpm for each gear to shift at. I wanted to do this because about last week i raced a del sol, lost but i didn't feel too bad because it had a b18 swap and he only caught me in 4th, 1,2,3rd i had him most of a car length, seems to be that i may have been shifting too early in 3rd but idk. Thing is i have no idea when is the red line for a 420a, how do i figure how far i can push the rpms?

Do any of you have specific rpms you shift at for each gear? or am i being crazy and just need to redline all the gears...

^what do you mean when the boost drops? It's probably n/a..he said 420a..but yeah he is spouting some great stuff there..dyno it and have your shift point when you start loosing power and tourqe.

His profile said non turbo w/ turbo so I wasn't shure. but eaither way if it is a non turbo just rev it out not to much on redline on stock drivetrain so you don't blow it. Otherwise if your turbo just watch when powerlose comes into play and shift gears. Same kinda concept on any car.

hmm dynoing is the only way to figure out? i'd have to travel pretty far for that :(

Use your butt dyno. :p Do you have a logger? Are you running a 420a boosted or 420a all motor? That will help out some.

Hmm. Bow long have you had the car? If you drive it regularly you should get the hang of it and figure it out. (Im pretty hard on my machines but that's how I tell) all motor or not.

My old 4g eclipse gs. 2.4l w CAI, exhaust, and underdrive pulley is a good example. It did good to shift at about 6000 because for some ### reason mitsubishi put a shut down on the rev limiter? So if it tapped more than twice (sometimes just hitting it) it would shut down to about 4000. It was very awkward.

Anyways, know your machine!
And don't loose to a del slo again ;)
