first off i tried searching but couldnt find anyone with a similar problem.. although im sure the answer is here somewhere.

1998 eclipse spyder (4g64 n/t) manual tranny

my car is off in neutral. start the car with clutch pressed try to put in first, but it wont go. try second...no luck. the car will not shift to any gear, including reverse.

turn car off it will shift just fine. start the car with it in gear and the car sputters like im not holding the clutch.

if the car is off, when i release the clutch it seems like it is sticking as it is being released.

anyone familiar with this problem? any help would be great. thanks

check your slave cylinder, there is a good chance the seal inside the cylinder itself may have failed, murrays repalcement is liek 15 bux or oem is like 40-50 from mitsu. Youll notice that the slave is bad, when theres fluid coming from it when your pumping it by hand from under the car. Also, check the rubber part of the clutch line, it may have got a hole in it.

Your clutch is gone my friend. If the pedal comes back up fine and the free play you have is less then specs, your clutch is really worn out or its totally finished.

thanks for your ideas...

trying to find the cheapest fix i replaced the master cylinder.. bleed all the air out. this about half fixed the problem. now, if the car is off and in gear, when started it no longer jumps as if the clutch is not pressed. although while running i still cannot shift to other gears, when the car is running. i called around and a slave cylinder is only $20, the slave cylinder is moving when the clutch is pressed. i was thinking about changing this as well. do you think it would be any good. or is the general idea the clutch/pressure plate is the culprit?

if it is the clutch could someone reccommend a good but inexpensive replacment to and oem clutch.

thanks
