Damn what's that? Looks like a 9" rear end with a ladder bar suspension setup.

Go back to that link and read post #62. That would be Ron Shearer, I'm sure he knows what rear end is in the car.

Now which do you see under sheps car? A LADDER BAR setup. NOT a 4link. I think you should step away from the keyboard for a little bit and be around race cars some more before you spread more miss-information.

It appears there is an attachment point for the upper links of a 4 link setup. Just because the lower bars are reinforced doesn't mean it's a ladder bar setup. You can't see everything in that picture so you are assuming a lot. Like what type of suspension setup it is, and what size gears he's running.

Does anyone have more pics of Shep's rear setup? Specifically the mounting points of the 4 link.

That is an attaching point for the wishbone. Not a 4 link mounting point.

I drive the car to the lanes make a pass and drive it back to the pits. In fact the car is very hard to keep up to operating temp therefore overheating is not a concern at all.

Due to running methanol??? Also if you could oblige me, the JE pistons in your Buschur built Shortblock, are they the 9.0:1 ones that they are selling? Or are they a lower compression?

Or are they higher? I am sure there are certain things about his set up that he is going to keep secret.

Well I never thought about higher, but with a serious turbo setup like his higher wouldn't seem to be a great idea, but then again it is John Shepherd's car right? And I'm sure they have that baby tuned nearly perfectly, so detonation doesn't seem to likely. But because of the fact they sell the Groden rods and the only JE pistons they offer are 9.0:1 that was my guess. Either way thanks for coming in Shep and clearing up all that ruckus. I just don't get why people can't leave it alone, and why everyone keeps claiming its a 9" after guys like Shearer and others who have done work on the car have said it isn't.

Asa general rule of thumb a methanol car will run better with higher compression. I run 10.5 :1 and 60 lbs of boost and sometimes 100 shot of nitrous on top of that. Next year we will be going with a much larger turbo so it should get interesting :)

It'll be stupid fast. Can't wait. :thumb: :thumb:

best of luck with the changes for next year. I can't wait to see you back at MIR next year

Exactly. Like I said it's a ladder bar suspension setup not a 4link. Why did you chose a ladder bar over a 4link shep? It seems the ladder bar is harder on the tires but much easier to "tune" vs. a 4link but you can tune the 4link 10x's better then the ladder bar.

Is it an 8 3/4 Dodge rear end? Only drop-pot rears I know of (that are strong enough)..Unless its an 8" ford or an Import truck unit? But why? How does the car run on Radials? Alot of Mustang guys would like to have you racing with them at all the DR events...Expect some phone calls. PS I saw some recent videos...time for a centrifugal clutch??

9" designates that it is a 9" ring gear, it is not a 9". I don't do very much that is just plain normal and simple and I have reasons for doing things differently. By the way it is not a 9" :)

Sorry I got that info from Trent Stanley.

What are you planning to do about your traction problem? Have you considered a switchable t-case like the Skyline's run so they can at least heat the rear tires. I am sure that would cut a good chunk of time off if you could hook in any gear.
