I just got AEM standalone less than a week ago. It's new never been installed, just taken out of the box and looked at. With that in mind I'm considering selling it and going to dsmlink. A few reasons.
#1 I don't trust myself enough to tune standalone. (don't mind paying)
#2 Free up some money for odds and ends.
#3 Dsmlink has alot of support.
As far as #1 goes I have a friend that is smart enough to tune aem but dsmlink is so much easer from what I understand. Don't want to bother him everytime.

But I love the thought of aem. Speed density, full control and never having to upgrade again. :D:dsm::D

Lets here it the good and the bad. Thanks for any input.

The AEM VS DSMLink debate has been discussed before. Search and you will find a few.

If you decide to go with DSMLink I would try to wait until V3 comes out.

Well what is your setup? I would say DSM link, All the reasons you listed are good. AEM EMS i think is best used with high horsepower engines. Like 700+HP?

I don't see why you would even bother with DSMlink. Maf's? Kiddy sliders for fuel? ROFL

AEM EMS or Megasquirt are 2 bad ass EMS's.

AEM and Megasquirt do not belong in the same sentence. If you would only know how things are done inside ms, hardware and software like. It's a cheap ems and in this case you get what you pay for. It will get the things done though... somehow around the corner.

Don't sell your AEM if you have greater plans for your dsm. You can remove a lot of harness (weight) and allso maf (maf-t, gm-maf). Just go for 3.0 bar map. Only problem with AEM is that it has not so user friendly interface. I say keep it and learn it.

with a good wideband and a EGT you could tune it no problem.
it takes time and small steps.you will notice that you will want
to tune all the time. it becomes addicting.

I'm pretty sure you're the one that needs to know how things are done in MS. Do you have any particular reason to bash it, other than it's price? What features does AEM offer that MS doesn't?

I remember when the cheapest standalones were going for $1400, and just a moderately equiped one was about $2000+... Thanks to MS all these prices have come down

Since MS is JUST AS GOOD as systems 3 times the price, why not be in support of it? I mean, I buy BFGoodrich's instead of Goodyear's.
Plus, I think MS users are a friendlier crowd who feel they have a common connection. Don't you want to be cool?... LOL ... well I think it's cool

All they are saying is it will be out this year. They were showing it off at the shootout so it should be pretty soon.

It's going to be way different. It will have load based tuning now like stand alones. It will also eventually have a free update that will support a true speed density setup. And it is going to have more rpm points to tune at.

Needless to say, everybody's argument about going with a stand alone instead of dsmlink is going to get much weaker. Because anything I have read them include in their argument is going to be changed with V3.

It really isn't that hard. We already have the stock timing and fuel maps available to us. So all you have to do is input them. Then if you don't want to modify the whole map just modify the part you will be using. If you are going to be running say 15psi modify the part of the map that uses 15psi to get the timing and fuel values.

Then when you get better you can modify the rest of the map for off boost response, faster spool up, and a wider powerband.

My whole thing with changing over is ease of tuning. As mentioned before the new dsmlink will have speend density along with more rpm points to tune at. I was waiting for link v.3 to come out but found this deal on a new never touched AEM setup. Link has helped a few into the 9's and god only knows how many to the 10 second range. If you look at my mods list it isn't just a stock rebuild. I also have an HX52 that will make it on the car after I max out the HY35. I think some good 10 second slips and maybe even a few 9 second runs is obtainable with the HX52. I don't think dsmlink is to be pushed aside as the average tuning tool when being compared to aem. And the support at the link forums is said to be second to none. But D*** AEM is so sweet!!!
