Thinking about picking up a 2GSX that has a seized balance shaft. It has a 6bolt swap already. The owner states the engine is fine..with good compression, just a seized shaft. The question is CAN THIS ENGINE BE SAVED? He states the TBELT did not break when this happend. I have another engine to put in the car, so either way I will be ok... The reason I am considering just putting in the new engine is to remove BS you basically need to pull the motor, so Why put a suspect engine back in its place. Let me know your guys thoughts or opinions.

Thanks! :thumb::dsm:

Just eliminate the balance shafts. I had this happen with a 7bolt motor and it worked fined after that. Well then the oil pump failed about 20 miles later so if everything else is fine. I would recommend eliminating the balance shafts and possibly replace the oil pump if it was the rear balance shaft that seized that is.

you dont need to remove your engine to remove the balance shaft.

I heard that you CAN do the BSE without pulling the engine, but is a big PITA. So, sounds like you guys are saying just roll with whats in it for now?

Just eliminate the rear balance shaft if the engine is in the car.

You can do both with the motor in the car...I had to have a buddy of mine stand on the motor to get the balance shaft to clear the car for the front one. But if it is the rear that seized up make sure the oil pump is ok. Im serious because it sucks having to pull the motor and rebuild it for something that is cheap to replace

Great points guys... Thanks.. Going to look at the car this weekend.

I've done 5 BSE's, and 2 with motors in the car just this past weekend, 4 total with the motors in.

PS pump needs to be removed and moved.
Alternator needs to come off.
Waterpump needs to come off.
Cross member needs to come off.
Intake of course.
X-case needs to come off.
DP needs to come off and moved.
Oil pan needs to come off.

It's not hard at all, and just takes patience and the right tools.
32mm socket for knocking out the front b-shaft bearing.
Flip front b-shaft around and reinsert it to knock out the inner most front b-shaft bearing.
It's really a cake walk, we were done in 6hrs, and then he drove me home, and that was with having a meet, bbq and many many beers...

pm me if you need a hand.
