yea use the brush then go over it with the vacume good....... anyone know how much of a pain it would be to do the dash to get it out and stuff???? im thinking about doing it if its not too bad.. if it is im just going to buy a black one... i think the carbon fiber alone isn't going to match up as good

I hear that getting the dash out is a nightmare (search for it)

I have been wantinga gray and black seats for a while now and thinking about getting them re-upolstered, I considered this but was wary about how it would turn out. Now my doubts are settled with the slose up pics. Thank you!

back to dying the seats, here's my attempt. I still need to soften the painted part thou...

The first person that had a nice car to do that is going to die. Get them done professionally, IE New panels put in. Anyone in their right mind would laugh at you in person if you had painted seats. Hell i would.

Looks good, let us know how the softening process goes.

And has anyone tried this with 1G seats. I've never been a 2G, but from the pics I can tell that they use a different material. So would this work well with the rougher 1G seats?

Also I have a burgundy interior, will that present any issues?

the ones above your post are 1G seats ROFL look really good. planning on doing my spyder with black on tan when the weather permits

Looks like it works well with the cloth seats but what about leather seats? Would be a last effort thing before i just ditch the stock seats.

Hey guys I'm thinking of doin this with my interior but I got a couple questions, Is it like spray painting? I mean like spray painting metal, where ya can get runs in it etc etc..... Thanks

damn those seats look pretty good OMG

I've already re-upholstered the "rainbow" fabric in my back stats and on the doors, but the front seats are a total PITA to take apart and re-upholster so I might just take this dying route. Had anyone dyed their seats in a color other than black? I'm thinking about going with a darker red.

Ok you haven't ever seen them in person so how do you know if they look like real fabric or not? :nono: This stuff is a DYE so it DYES the fabric it CHANGES the color of the STANDS so you can't tell that it is painted, when I did my seats it all looked like brand spankin new fabric. This is one of the best mods I EVER did to my car it cleaned up the interior ALOT and this dye will even cover up stains :sneaky: LOL. Anywayz don't diss til you see it in person, you'll see that it looks AMAZING :rocks:

Yeah, that's the same stuff I used. At first I used alcohol to wipe the panels down and try to dry out any oils on the panels. But for some reason, some of the trunk panels peel a little (due to scratches), but they're ususally near an edge. It's probably an error on my part by not cleaning the edges good enough.

Anyway, it looks good. Are you doing the whole interior black?

Buy bulldog adhesion promoter from walmart. Makes paint stick to plastic.

here is my write up

clean all parts i used warm water and dawn

let everyhting dry good

i used dupli color flat black for a oem look i even did the plastic panels int he car with this

spray it

let it dry a lil, i waited about 8 min between coats do as many coats as you wish to get the deepness you want.

let everything dry good i waited 24hrs

i used a vacume and a Boars hair brush and wiped the seat down

your all done and seats should be nice and smooth feeling now...

the panels were really easy if you get runs when it dries you cant even see them

I just used much the same process on a spare set of seats that I had from my old Saturn project car (long story involving nitrous and turbos LOL), and I have to say that I was more than impressed with the results. Since they were junk seats just sitting in the basement anyway, I entirely dyed one seat-back black and another one I criss-crossed masking tape all over it to check for clean mask lines and both seats came out looking like they were made that way. After I was done, I took the fully dyed one out to the garage and attacked it with a random-orbit sander with 220-grit paper to test the wear resistance and I was through to the foam before the color faded.

I estimate that for a full front bucket seat you'll want about 2-1/2 cans of dye.

its depends on who is spraying some guys are saying 1 1/2 can.. some are saying 2 or more it just depends i did everything behind my font seats.. i used a total of 4 cans including the seats..

buy 2 cans give it a shot all your answers have been posted.. take the time to read through instead skimming across

I DID read, but I was wondering how much it would take just for the MIDDLE part of a seat, not the WHOLE THING. since most of the guys that use 2 cans had the entire seat dyed from what I saw, I was wondering if It might only take 1 for the middle.

now then...a boars hair brush, is that like a paintbrush type thing? I'm assuming so, and although it would be more work, think a toothbrush would do a decent job? :shrug

boars head is more rough and corse feeling .. really stiff.. u could probally do it with one can.. its under 4 bucks at wallmart... tooth brush may work but damn that might take a bit

ok guys i done the hidden pieces of the interior in my car today and I was really amazed. but I have a couple questions before I do the seats and rest of interior. on the seats does the Vinyl Color we get at wal-mart chip over a period of time?

I used a large finger nail brush. Just needs to be a stiff brush to get the stiffness out of the fabric once you dye it. Something on the order of say a hair brush sounds about right. I'm not sure a REALLY stiff nail brush would be a good idea as it might tear things up.
