seafoam question

i cant seem to find any other seafoam posts with what im looking for so here... i have one can right now and want to do it, i was going to put it into the intake then change my plugs.. i also want to put some in my oil within the next few days ...will i have to change my plugs AGAIN after putting seafoam into the oil?

Do it all at once, and then you'll have it easier. I haven't heard of people putting it in the intake, but I could be wrong.

I generally put about half a can of seafoam directly into the oil, and another 1/8th of the can into the gas if I have a low tank. Then I take what's left and I unplug my vacuum lines for my boost gauge, and I put it in the can and let it suck the seafoam up.

Also, if this is your first time doing it, make sure you do it in an open area. And once it's in the oil, hold the car at about 2k RPM's for a minute or so, then shut it off and drain all the oil out and you're good to go.

I'm not sure, maybe someone else can lend some more insight on that.

But if you're looking to get it done quick and easy, the vacuum line for the boost gauge is one of your best alternatives.

I agree, BOV vacuum line is generally the easiest spot to use.

I was reading in one post a while ago, can't remember which one, and these people said they kept the seafoam in for like 2 weeks and then changed the oil. Did they not follow directions or can you really leave it in that long?

I do a seafoam treatment a couple days before I change my oil. I have heard of people leaving seafoam in their oil (purposely) for up to 150 miles before an oil change. I wouldn't do this, though. A couple of days is good, though.

As for the intake method, the Throttle body "P" port is great, or the BOV line (what I use, since I have the early 1990 style throttle body). Basically, anything that sees vacuum at idle is OK - but the two mentioned above are your best bets.

You also want someone to rev the engine up to about 2,500 rpm and just pour it in a little bit at time, I use most of the can, then I go to shut off the car, then I let it sit for about 10 minutes. After that I romp the car hard for a little bit driving it mind you, till smoke stops comming out then continue to change the oil after wards.

I believe it's the PCV that misses a cyl. But please, someone correct me if this isn't right.

The 'P' port doesn't miss anything, for sure - Best bet if you have a 91+ TB.

I visually checked the tops of the pistons after running a full can through my BOV line, and it certainly didn't look like I'd missed a cylinder, haha.

If you have a shop vac handy with a small enough attachment, you can pour a little Seafoam (or MCCC, or whatever) directly into the cylinders, via the spark plug holes (remember to take the plugs out first, of course). Let it sit overnight, and then vacuum out what's left in the morning. Just FYI

it acts as an engine flush, so it flushes all the S**t from your engine into your oil, why would you want the stuff you just cleaned off to be floating around in the engine once again? its like picking your nose...you pick it to get all the gunk out, not to take it out then put it back in

Because sea foam cleans all the burnt oil and slug in your oil passages so after putting it in you will have a lot of contamination in your oil and you want that out asap.

I just did this two days ago. I pulled the line on the throttle body that has a "P" then I sat in the car and reved it to 2-2.5K RPM, while a friend of mine (with a longer piece of vaccum line) stuck the vaccum line in the bottle. The car smokes A LOT so be in an open are where neighbors wont complain. Then after all the bottle has been sucked up, I let it sit about 30 minutes or so. I then drove the car kind of hard boosting a little. After all the smoke is done coming out of the exhaust, I changed my oil. The car idles a lot smoother now and runs a little better. I didnt change the plugs or anything else besides the oil and filter. The seafoam is also great for finding exaust leaks I had a couple. I hope this helps. I have done this on three cars the exact same way and it has worked everythime with great results.

Just did it with deep creek. It is sea foam in a spray version. I used the bov line and after it was done i noticed a smoother idle. It didn't smoke as much as people claim it does but it does help you find all your exhaust leaks. Next I will put it in my gas tank and oil. I'll keep you guys posted.

yea we did it on my friends nissan not too long ago, it smoked alot but didnt change a thing for him...running wise new plugs and all
