I am looking at a sbr lsd for a very good price. If anyone has experience with these I'd like to hear about it. Pros cons etc. It's not a quaife and I don't expect it to act like one but real world experience is what I'm loking for. Thanks for any and all help.

They work just fine for what they are. You are not expecting a Quaife, and you definitely won't get it. What you will get is increased potential for traction at the cost of increasing wear on the front diff sun gears.

Is it worth it for increased traction? Yes. Would I go with a better front diff than a LSD insert in a FWD trans? Yes.

Do whatever you can to reduce or remove wheelhop from the equation and your front diff will last longer with the LSD insert.

Good luck!

Those links are helpful but i as well would like to hear from people who have ACTUALLY used one, not what people suspect or think. Those links are good but no real first hand info.
I in no way can afford a quafie, so i have the insert, im also stroking my car. So ide like to hear real first hand info as well.

But back to the OP, I have a friend who has one in his car 23 psi on a 16g, it works wonders, no traction problems at all.

I have ran them for several years in my AWD 2G, as well as my old 1G FWD turbo, and my GVR4.

I have had only one fail, and it was very quick in the transmission's life with around 3000-5000miles and it broke teeth off the front diff spider gears and spit them through the bellhousing causing moderate case damage that required machinework and welding to repair it.

Every one I have worked with though, has shown moderate to severe galling of the LSD insert plates, due to the nature of the design -- it is just part of what it is going to do no matter what. Having a LSD insert with good quality machinework and springs will help it last longer, as well, it would be helpful to have a shot-peened front differential gearset to reduce premature gear failure.

If you want to discuss these things further with people that are experienced in using them, contact myself or Jon at TRE (WELCOME TO TRE   WE SPECIALIZE IN MANUAL TRANSMISSION REPAIR).

They are fine for additional traction, but as I said, they WILL increase front differential gear wear due to their design.

As well, like I said before, remove wheelhop from the equation by using good engine/transmission mounts (solid front and rear mounts with poly side mounts), good suspension components and good axles with proper alignment specs.

well the dsm wiseman ^ had spoken ;)

Thanks guys!!!!!!!

What was the highest hp car one of these inserts had been put in?

My current transmission has one in it, and dynoed over 780awhp with no problems, and has handled track abuse with no problems.

It really depends on your setup more than what amount of power it can handle.

Alright cool. When you say its the setup that matters, what exactly would cause concern?

Get a good suspension, good motor mounts, dial in your spring rates and remove all possibilities for wheelhop -- I thought I was pretty clear concerning these details.
