Should double think about that..Why do people do roteries or boxer engines..Keeping weight down yes but it goes past that when u talk about weight and also weight distribution as well as your roll center..Soo theres that.

Should know in something like that the lighter the better and a n/a rotary can still make over 300hp while weighing a whole lot less, need less parts, and take up less room.

Is correct, well doesnt know I'm not an engineer but will figure it out.

I'd like it to be 1500-1800lbs

Should know I want to build something like that someday too, so I've thought about it and I'd either use a rotary for the size and weight, or an air cooled Porsche engine. The advantage of the Porsche engine would be no coolant to plumb/cool and its already made for a rear engine application.
