So I bought a saturn alt. 160amp with a self exciting reg. I installed it, bought a new belt due to needing a shorter one and I used the stock power wire to power it. I tucked the plug and zip tieded it out of the way. So I took it for a drive and it hesatates and dosent feel right. Is this because I used the stock power lead.Do I need to run a 4g wire from the alt straight to the battery? And no I have not done a boost leak test yet I will in the morning

Also I think my battery is tost it wont keep a charge so I dont know if that is part of the problem but I just dont see why it wont let me go past 40 mph its like hitting a brick wall

Did you not read my post I have the self exciting one No pig tail needed!

I have a 2 gauge power wire that runs from the alternator fuse. Its really easy, just make your wire and then bolt it to the side of the fuse. My alternator works great with no problems.
