ok so i figured i would ask some of you AWD guys if you had ever thought about a way to disconnect the front drive axles and make it a straight RWD car. Is this possible or just a crazy idea.

The car would not last if one simply unhooked it. The rear-end can't handle having only the rear wheels driven.

Ask mike wohler aka gastrokers about the stock rear end, he just turned his into soup sunday LOL

GREAT minds think alike :), came up with the idea a few weeks back. I've just ordered some junk front axles (to cut out the centers of) to switch mine over, but you have to have a welded center diff (or lock your gvr4 tranny into 4wd) to make it work correctly (according to the guy at a VERY reliable tranny shop). I was asking because I was afraid of doing damage to my tranny trying this. I will let you know how it goes once I get mine up and running. As for the response from zdrummer, he has a very valid angle that I hadn't thought of, but with the center diff welded and everything turning as if it were in 4wd I don't know if it would burn the diff up or not.
