I recently saw a video online of a 97 GSX that was drifting a back road and he only had rear wheel drive. Then he did a break stop burnout and the back tires spun only. What did he do?....did he remove his front CV axles?....and if so how safe is this....would all that power going to the rear damage something....He was beating on this thing HARD....drifting, burnouts, and she was holding up fine....but i dont know if he had mods that made it stronger?....Just wanted to know if anyone on here as heard of or done this.....Thanks

ive heard bad things about doing this also??

If i was into drifting or just being different I would def. do this if I had a gsx
but if you want the fastest track times and better launches then Id stay awd.

If I could though id probably do the rwd conversion to be honest, rwd is so much more fun/ ( and dangerous ) than awd and fwd...

There is a video on streetfire.net with a 1g RWD that held a burnout for about what looked to be 100 yards on some country bumpkin back road.

I'd like to see a vid of him actually hooking up and breaking the axles to pieces since the rears alone were not designed to power the car. Drop an 8.8" Ford rear in there and it's a done deal, but you can't take a setup made for 50/50 split, drive all of the power to the rear and make it reliable without extra work.

Ya im not to familiar with the awd cars but i am with fwd cars. The fwd was designed to help save fuel and help the motor use more hp. If you turn your fwd into rwd your gonna sacrifice hp and fuel economy. So your bascially defeating the purpose of that the car was designed to do. I know this was about the awd but its the same concept.

Not nessicarily, I could be wrong but I thought the AWD's had different gearing and an extra 5hp to compensate for the difference of not only the extra power loss thru the rear diff but also for the weight difference. That being noted I would think that no power loss would be noticed really but still not worth the potentially damaging effects to the car.

Keeping this on topic, what benefits will you see with a rwd setup over the awd setup?

Awd provides the best street traction, even during bad weather conditions.
Awd helps cut down your launch times and less burn outs.

Rwd will give you some bad tractions in heavy rain or snow.
You will have lower 1/4 mile times with the same setup.
You will burn through rear tires very quickly.
You will break your dsm by having too much stress on the rear.

Well, it seems that your trying to compare the two but your one sided.....If you wanna do 1/4mile track then of course awd is the way to go. If you gonna do a rwd setup because you wanna drift then that's fine too, just be aware that your probably going to have to upgrade a couple of parts. To each his own....:thumb:

Thanks for all the input guys....i really was not planing on doign this to my car, just wondering if it was possable....I love my AWD....it seperates me from %80 of the Street Tuning community and saves me money. My car before my GSX was a Ford Probe GT....and I smokin thos front tires every chance i got....and at 100 bucks a tire.....I much rather out launch someones car than out smoke it...LOL.....thanks again
