I'm soon to do my timing belt replacement and I have a list of stuff that I've read on threads and talked to some people, which they think I should replace. If there is something that I've missed to add, please feel free to fill me in, and if there is something that i've listed that is uneccessary to be replace, please feel free so to tell...

1. Timing Belt
2. Tensioner
3. Water Pump
4. Tensioner Pulley
5. Tensioner Adjuster
6. Balance Shaft Belt

And that's all that to my knowledge that needs to be replaced, when it comes to timing belt work. Also, should I just go all OEM Mitsubishi parts or get kits out there that are provided by vendors, such as Prostreet and Slowboy Racing?

Thanks guys!!

1. Yes
2. Yes (I assume you mean the auto-tensioner)
3. Yeah, good idea
4. Not really that important in my opinion but cheap to replace
5. Same as 2
6. Most definitely (or get rid of your bs)

Personally, I say go with OEM stuff. My Mitsu dealer here has a DSM discount which around 30% off. Just my $.02 though.

You are very wise to ask before starting - I'm impressed. Add idler pulley (the stationary one opposite the tensioner pulley), the B belt tensioner pulley, and water pump o-ring. Get everything only at Mitsubishi if you don't want problems (it's worth the extra $). If possible, bring all the pulleys to the dealer with you - I have done dozens and even the dealer sometimes has the wrong ones in the correct boxes (just slightly different, eg. wrong year, NT vs. turbo, redesigned, etc.). And be careful to get the lip on the B tensioner pulley the correct way (in vs. out) - notice old one (they reversed this on some year models).

okay.. i hope this schematic shows up... they are all numbered from norco mitsubishi's website... can you guys identify what numbers that I need for the timing belt replacement...

for sure.. I understand that the timing belt is #1... then comes the tensioner adjuster... then the tensioner (idler pully?)... water pump... balance shaft belt... balance shaft tensioner...

Am I on the right track or missing or adding unnecessary stuff that don't need to be changed.. thanks...

#5 is not the same as #2. There is a tensioner for the timing belt and a separate one for the balance belt, so replace both of them. Also, you didn't list the 3 accessory belts (p/s, a/c, water pump) but I assume those are a given to you.

okay.. here's the rundown from all the info you guys gave me..

1. Timing belt
2. Tensioner Adjuster
3. Idle Tensioner Pulley
4. Balance Shaft Belt
5. Balance Shaft Tensioner
6. Water Pump
7. 3 Belts Auto Accessory

And that should be it.... :thumb:

Should one loctite the threads on any of the bolts you remove for a tbelt job? I haven't seen anything that states you should, but I figured I would ask since I'm doing mine tomorrow(my waterpump is failing :/)

My bad. Forgot about the bs one.

You can use some thread sealant. Some of the bolts (autotensioner) have oil on the other side of them so it's a good idea to seal them really well. Once the sealant congeals, it helps from backing out a little too.
