So at the moment i have 6bolt rods.... the engine is out but the rods have developed some surface rust on them.... i know this shouldnt be a big deal if i bring them to the machine shop and get eveything done to them but i would rather get new rods. i AM ON A BUDGET!!! bigtime.... im just doing this to give me a little more peice of mind with my prject.... i dont think ill be going over 500whp but would still like to have a nice built inside to give me some room to grow :)

i thought about Eagle H Rods or Scat H rods or Manley H rods.
WHICH one of these 3 do you guys think would hold the most hp and tq?????

and what would be a good CHEAP piston i could go with? this is all standard size NO bore. and would OEM piston rings work? also would OEM rod bearings work?

please let me know i am looking for cheap ones but better than stock. right now it would be a completly stock shortblock but would like to build it if i can do it for under 700.
i already have oem bearings and oem rings that is why im asking.

and for the pistons dont suggest anything that un double the price of anything else cause i wont get it.

thank you
Fabian

1st off... cheaping out on your engine is a big :nono:

Any of those rods will do the trick.

I personally would go with Manley H Beams and Wiseco Pistons

ACL Tri Metals are good bearings, but ive heard cases were people prefer OEM Bearings

Why not try finding good 6 bolt rods and Evo 9 Pistons?

im not cheaping out as you said any of those rods will work... they are all better than oem so its not cheaping out. just because im looking for a good deal and asking which one is better for the money doesnt mean im 'cheaping out'
and dont anyone tell me its all in the tuning cause i know that ill have ecmlink v3 for tuning.

because i prefer getting new rods it jsut gives me more peace of mind as i have to drive this car more than 60miles per day and will probly see a fair bit of boost when im in town....

I went with Eagle rods and Mahle pistons. A good piston will come with it's own rings as well (the Mahles did). OEM bearings will be fine, that's what I'm going to be using on my build. So everything is checking out to be within spec for stock size?

HP/torque rating is more based off of the rod tolerance since that is what takes most of the beating. The Eagles have been used to 700hp applications as for the others, check with the manufacturer to see what the recommended limit is.

When i said "Cheaping out" i wasnt talking about the rods...

I think the word he wants to use is "affordable" :thumb:

haha YES affordable is a much better way to put it sorry for freakin like that. i dont think anyone WANTS cheap (as in shitty) products.
i am just looking for the best bang for my buck im not at all cheaping out on this build.

You realliy can't go wrong with pistons. But if I were you, check out the vendor deals where they combo pistons and rods together. It's usually the best deal and it's all better stuff. That's how I got my Eagle rods and Mahle pistons.

Okay thats good to know they have to be willing to ship to Canada though. also sorry for the n00b :toobad: question.... but whats the difference between an 8.3:1 and a 9.0:1 compression ratio? wouldnt you want the 9.0:1? thats obviously not the case seeing as they are the same price....?
ill be running no more than 30psi most likely around 20 but boost is addicting right.... i dont know if that matters i just want to know te difference.
thanks
sorry for my n00bness :idontknow:

Generally, the more boost you run, the lower compression you would want so you have lower chance for detonation. Higher compression is peppier out of boost but you will need to run higher octane to keep knock at bay. Lower compression is the opposite.

if im running lets say 18-26psi what would you reccomend for piston compression ratio?

Like JKing said, the type of gas you use is the biggest factor as well. If you have a stedy supply for E85, go 9.0:1 or higher and you'll have a hell of a fast car. Otherwise, go for the pump gas route and get a slightly smaller compression ratio and you'll still have a fast car regardless :thumb:. The new Evos came with 8.8:1 pistons and you can get those fitted on 1g rods with some machine work.

i will be runing PUMP gas with no meth injection (yet), the octane rating up here in canada for Premium gas is only 91 octane not 93 octane like the US. i can go to HUSKY and fill up and get 94 octane gas but that is about an hour away from my house so i wont be able to fill there regularly.
does an 8.5:1 compression ratio sound good for this gas?
thanks

You will be fine with the 8.5 compression. You'll have to keep an eye on your boost though and once you start tuning you'll be in a better safe zone then.
