I tried to read the post about johnnyracecar fmic's but its hard to go through 1000 posts when it takes 2 mins for each page to come up.... anyways....

I am looking to get a FMIC for my 1g very soon. I was wondering if any problems arose with the JRC intercoolers? Or is everyone happy with their purchase?

Also, with my mods which IC should be purchased? the 6" or 8"?
On the website is says the 6" IC has been on cars with 350hp, would that be the max of that particular IC? And would the 8" be too big for my setup? I also want to try and keep my car looking stock so as little cutting of the front bumper as possible. I was looking to get the offset ends in 2.5" unless told its better to go 2.25" and diff side setup if easier to run piping.

mods are as follows...

91 TSi AWD
K&N
3"Maf / maf-t
evoIII turbo ported
3" turbo back exhaust
Exhaust Man. & O2 housing ported
10-12psi with stock boost controller (to break in turbo) going to 20psi soon
Walbro 190
660 denso injectors
keydiver stage 3 chip

I just ordered the 8" core with 2.25" inlets, and I am running basically the same setup (EvoIII16g and 560s). The 8" core is only a few bucks more, and has more room for growing--heck, your turbo and fuel mods might outrun that small core's capabilities right now. Go with the 8".

As for piping, if you go 2.5 your turbo will have more volume to fill, and boost response will be a tad slower. The reason I went with 2.25 is that I have a Brode UICP, and wanted to use it in my piping.

I haven't read any reviews of people who are dissatisfied with the johnnyracecar core. Most people have been very pleased, and I think it would suit your needs really well.

from what i recall of that thread when i was keeping up on it, the brackets were flimsy? Or maybe just some of them?

I think a few people had broken one or two of theirs during installation. A page or two after that I stopped paying attention because it was mostly offtopic. From everything that I've read it seems everyone is overall more than satisfied with the product.

I bought the 8" one and made my own piping and so far so good.I'm only running about 18- to 19 psi with my small 16G so I couldn't comment on higher boost applications. I'm happy with it. :thumb:

Thanks for all your responses :thumb: I think I'll go with the 8" IC. Of course now I think that I need a rebuild (low compression)
