[RESOLVED] Downpipe connection

On a 98 2g, will a 3" downpipe bolt on directly?

If it's made for a 2g it will. Just check to see if it connects to your stock cat or is a cat-eliminator.

Im getting it done by a muffler shop. There also putting in a hi flow cat. So all 3". But they did say that it would not bolt up so they would have to start at 2.5" for a tiny length than open that up to 3"

2.5" for a tiny bit? Not sure what that would be. If you have a little spare time you'd be better off putting the exhaust on yourself. The downpipe is just two bolts to the o2 housing. The only tough part would be welding and hangars and that sort of thing.

yeah my downpipe i got from ebay is 2.5" then after the flew section is 3" all the way back. but 3" should work as long as the flanges matches up.

I have a 3' downpipe on my 2G, It will fit but since the O2 housing is 2.5' it isnt gonna be the greatest fit.

Mine lined up pretty good. It's 3" at the flange. There's .25" all the way around where I'd have to port out the o2 housing to match perfectly.

well im getting it custom made and put on for a real good price. They looked at it and said that 3" wont bolt, so they are making it 2.5 inches to connect and than right after that it opens to 3" all the way through.

dont know if thats correct because i always thought 3" would bolt up. Just making sure though because im paying extra for them to do that.

would it even make a big difference if the beginning of the downpipe was 2.5" for a very very short distance?

Not really, your o2 housing is already 2.5". When they say "A short distance" they usually me 2-3" so they have clearance for bolts and enough room to flare the pipe out to 3".

yes thats what they meant by short distance. i guess ill go with this route so that it fits perfectly.
