hey i've been searching this forum for about 1-2 weeks now and i got definatly got a lifter tick. and i tryed all the "cheap fixes" and its not working very well so i plan on replacing them. i have a 93 eclispse GS, with the 1.8L i am just woundering if anyone knows a place i can get them that will have a reasonable price but not crappy quality. i plan on following the lifter replacement guide in the VFAQs. it looks easy but is there any thing i should be aware of thats not mentioned on there. and the last thing is there anything else i want to replace while if got the engine ripped apart such as rods or anything like that that wont cause to much additional hassle.
thanks much for any help

Yeah, I'll help you out.

You really do not have to take a lot of things off to do this job on the 1.8l. If you have experience replacing the timing belt on your car then the job will be a snap. Once the timing belt is off you simply loosen the bolts holding the rocker assembly and lift up just a little bit (You may need to tap with a rubber mallet to loosen). The old lash adjusters should fall right out, If not, then a magnet will help. You dont have to take this all the way off for the lash adjusters to fall out, All you need is a little bit of clearance.

If you are very careful not to turn anything when you do this then you shold be able to set your rocker assembly right back down on top of your distributor shaft with no problem and without having to adjust your timing any.

Just curious, have you ever done a timing belt job on your car? The 1.8l is easy to do, but if you have never done it before then I will give you some tips... :dsm:

I haven't done it on the 1.8, but do not think it's much difference. I bought a thick flat head screw driver, and a small crowbar. I took the valve cover off. Covered up the spark plug holes. Put a rag on top of the rocker so it won't fly out of the engine bay. I popped the rocker off, and pulled the lifter out. Then reverse the process to put back on.

Only do it to the ones where the cam lobes are not pushind down on the rocker. You can use a rachet and 17Mm to rotate the cams, only do it counter clockwise though. Took me about an hour and a half to do everything. Got my parts from www.partsdinosaur.com It's nice to not have ticking :thumb: :laser:

VFAQ.com has pics I believe of this process. Good luck

are you sure. I thought everything rotated clockwise or is it different for the 1.8L? I know that my 2.0L, everything turns clockwise, as in to the right.

i havn't ever did the timeing yet. but i plan on gettin the help from sumone who has. they havn't done it on the same car but i would assume there all similar? you guys are all real helpful, but is there anything that i should replace besides the lifters or is that gonna be more of a pain.
thanks

And you're right, never turn the crank counter clockwise. Please be certain before you post suggestions, this could have been a very expensive one.

maybe he was standing on the other side of the car... LOL but yah, so basicly if i used a ratchet i would want to be "tightening" it

If you have no other problems going on them I can't think of anything else you should replace while your at it. Your cylinder head cover gasket is not leaking is it? Other than the head cover gasket and the lifters, I can't think of anything else that would be 'easy' to replace up there except for possibly your PCV Valve.

If you are not having any problems other than the 'clicking' from your lash adjusters, I would save your money and not buy parts that you don't need... :thumb:

My 1.8l has been a real dependable ride for me, I bet yours will serve you well to if you keep on taking care of it like you are... Good luck with your project, and let us know if you need any more help. :dsm:
