My steering rack boots each have the small end, that is held by the outer clamp, separated from the rest of the boot. This is pretty much just from being old and now it's time to replace them.

Is there such a thing as a split design or two piece boot for a steering rack? I'd rather avoid getting another alignment at this point in time.
I'm thinking that since these boots do not revolve or rotate, they only expand and compress when I turn the steering wheel, that a split designed boot would be perfect here.

Any thoughts?

Just mark the tie rod very well and measure it accurately being careful not to turn the inner tie rod while unscrewing the outer tie rod.

Mark the orientation of the nut to the rod and the tie rod end to the nut and rod with one long mark across all three. It has to be really clean first and be careful not to rub it off when putting on the boot. Count the number of threads left exposed before you turn the outer tie rod off. You can even wrap a piece of tape around the threads butted up to where the outer tie rod ends. If you go overboard and are very precise, you can get it right back where it was. As you see I use alot of fail safes.
