Does anyone a way to remove surface rust and corrosion of a 420a block? I'm considering soaking it in CLR mixed with hot water and letting it soak for a couple days.

I typically have my machine shop do it through the hot tank process.

To do it myself I would probably use a wire wheel on a power drill. If it's bad, soak it in penetrating oil for a day or two first. There are different material wire wheels. Use a brass alloy composition to knock off mild rust. Or a steel composition to remove old paint/heavy rust.

Make sure you replace those freeze plugs too!
