Removing 2G FWD tranny, what's the best way to get the axles out?

Mission complete! Off to Shep it goes. Thank you so much for the input.

I do have one more question while I wait to get it back though. I have a ACT 2100 clutch and ACT flywheel in there too. Should I replaec the disk since it has about 50,000 miles on it? If so do you think it will be ok if I just install a new disk or shoudl I replace the whole thing?

I was recommended to use a Exedy Stage 2 Cerametallic clutch kit but not sure...I really don't want to deal with the removing the flywheel so I figured just installing a new 2100 would be ok. Thoughts?

Just pulled a Friends. Unbolted- Both Lower arms at the Chassis mounts, Sway bar Top link, and the dampner fork. then silply rotated it towards the rar of the car. Did this on both sides..
No need to bust ball joints. Besides they can be a real pain in the arse and you ALWAYS tear a boot! well atleast I do with my crappy pickle forks.

Made it simple to pull axles and remove the tranny. We only had one axle give a problem coming out of the knuckle. But a couple good solid hits with a 5pounder and a chunk of brass for axle protection and it slid right out. Driver side just needed a good solid Yank to pull it from the tranny. Easy cheesy!

Hard part was getting my hand out from under the tranny before it slid off my tranny jack and onto my hand!

Pickle forks are all but useless for this sort of thing. Many auto parts stores have tool rental programs (most are free, but just require a fully refundable deposit upon return of the tool). What you need to get is a "front end service" tool kit. That'll pop 'em right out for ya' without so much as a scratch :thumb:

I pop the ball joints whenever I pull the tranny. With the right tool it only takes a second, and it makes the job easier.

I don't know much about the life of the act pressure plates but at 50K I think I would want to be replacing the complete clutch assembly (& have the flywheel machined) to be on the safe side. I think with that kind of milage you'd end up pulling the tranny again in the not so distant future. I haven't used the Exedy stage 2 but have onlye heard great things about it & it should work well with a fwd & street tires. It may give you abit of chatter but noting most can't live with. I ran the Centerforce Dual Friction when the car was fwd & it held up great.
