hey all
quick question
i want to tint my car.. but the hatch is gonna be a bi*** unless i can take it off... the only problem i foresee is that i don't know how/where to disconnect the wires.. i sort of expected a wiring harness somewhere, but i can't find it..
anyone know what to do in terms of the wires to remove the hatch on my 96 TSI?

also, there should be no problem putting it back on in terms of lining everything up, correct?

thanks

First you have to remove the pistons from the hatch, do so by removing the bolt using an alan key or robertson screwdriver.

then have your hatch propped open with something, I used a broom handle, then remove the bolts where it is mounted at the top of the car and thats it, youll need some1 to help you to finally remove the window after everything is unatached becaus that thing is heavy

..what do you mean that's it? that's no problem for me.. the only thing i'm wondering about is the bundle of wires at the top/left of the hatch.. also, the window washer lines in the top-middle.. but it looks like those just pull off...
i don't know how to disconnect the wires though... <<that's what i was asking..

sry no, If I were you unless your an exp. tinter, take it to a shop, to get the back window done it would prolly be around 100$ I got all 5 of mine done for 300$

please dont tint the rear window yourself. I had mine done at a shop, they had 2 options, use 1 piece and form it to the contours of the window, or 2 use 2 pieces.

well, option 1 resulted in a torn piece of tint, and option 2 worked out fine, he put the seam exactly on the line for the rear window defroster, you cannot see the seam at all!

as far as the plugs, I would recdomend cutting the tint at 90 degree angles and just remove the tint that would occupy the same space, and also a chanel that goes back to the rear pannel.

But if you want to look like you tinted it yourself in under an hour. . . . GO FOR IT!

 there's no plugs blocking where i wanna tint...
my only question is how i remove the hatch, considering that there are a lot of wires running from the top/left of the hatch to the back of the car
LOL.. does that help? that's my only question :p
thanks

by "plugs" I was referring to the black plastic box that houses the wire powering the defroster, and on the other end of the "plug" is the defroster lines itself. This should be located in the upper left and right corner of the window (by upper I mean the highest verticle point from the ground)

dude just climb in there and tint the window

you have spent 6 days trying to figure out how to take it off, everything would be dry now and set.

just do it or let someone do it for you

and yes I tinted cars and yes I tinted my eclipse.

as for $300 a job dam I want to move there we only charged $125.
