Can I wire a remote start if I have a factory alarm in my car? Do I need to do any specific wiring to get it to work? BTW I'm doing this to a manual 5 speed. I already installed the transmission sensor to make sure I don't start it in gear. Thanks.

Basically depends on the remote starter itself. Like some can "watch" the unlock signal from the factory remote and if you push it twice or w/e it says on the remote start unit then it will start. But they usually come with a seperate remote and its just easier to use that IMO. But what unit did you plan on using? And be careful with the transmission sensor thing, if it goes bad then thats $1000's in damages most likely, installing on a 5-speed without the proper R/S system is a bi***. But good luck!

You have to tie in the factory alarm disarm wire. In your case it is a green/white wire in the drivers side kick panel. Here is the info you need below...good luck:

oh and also, i lost the remote for the remote lock/unlock. i stopped by the dealer a while back and they said it would cost 80 bucks to replace so i just said forget it. Do i need the remote for the alarm to do a remote start?

I have an Avital 3200 (I think) alarm w/remote start. It's basically Clifford. Anyway, I got it for about $125 with the relays. It's been working fine for two years but I'm having problems with starting by method of the key. I believe some of the relays are no good. Basically, I'll get in the car and turn the key and just hear a click, sometimes I'll just hit the wiring beneath the dash and it starts (while trying to start w/key). WTF It's just a pain in the ass now. I knew what I was doing when I installed it, and did it carefully, but now I wish I didn't. Just my .02.

Many of Avital, Clifford, Viper, etc.. are all the same units with different remotes. Older Clifford alarms are different...but once Directed Electronics bought almost every business in the industry they made them all the same and simply market them all differently.

That being sad - first thing I would check is the starter kill relay. Most of the upper end remote starts, including Avital use a relay for the starter kill. Some onboard, others outboard -depends on the model.

No you do not need the remote to install the remote start. Thats where the factory alarm disarm wire comes into play - it is posted in the wire listing above.
