Hey, I know that DSMs aren't exactly the most reliable cars out there....However, is this just said by Tuners like ourselves, or is a stock DSM unreliable as well? I am thinking of getting a 2Gb GSX but I am worried about reliability. If say pretty much all I do to the car is intake, exhaust, other smaller mods, etc. would I have reliability issues? I don't want a car to take to the track, just a daily driver that can keep up with my friends cars (WRX, SRT4, RSX Type S). Is the GSX reliable if it is not very heavily modded and if it is well taken care of?

Any car can be reliable. It is all on how it has been cared for. My car has had 1 problem since I have had it. It was a factory defected item, but it cost me time and money nonetheless.

The same stuff can be said for modded cars. They can both be reliable and unreliable.

Just know that problems happen and be prepared for it. :thumb:

Alright thanks. So you think that with a turbo back exhaust, intake, bov the car would be just fine as long as it had been taken care of by the previous owner and I take care of it? Also, I have never done any mods to a car, do you think that I would be able to install an injen intake? And I have heard good things about the type s bov, is this bov a straight bolt on kit? If I were to buy it would it come with everything needed to install or would I need to purchase anything else?

In order...

Yeah, that should be fine. As long as it was taken care of.

Yes you can install an intake. Simple and takes NO time. But again, save your money. Not really needed.

The Type-S is a good Bypass. I have it and it does its job. It is a bolt on if you have the UICP that will accomodate it. Use the money from the Injen for a set of Ebay UICP and LICPs from Greddy. Can be had for $180 or so. Then it will be a true bolt-on affair.

So you don't think I need to get any intake at all? What about just like a drop in k&n?

See this filter. That is all that was needed. Along with the Greddy Piping kit I said above. They are both in this pic. Leave the stock accordian for now.

Alright, thanks for all of the help. Does this look like a good upgrade path to take to start off with?:

Air Filter
Apexi N1 Cat-Back Exhaust
Apexi N1 Downpipe
GReddy Upper & Lower IC Pipes
GReddy Type S BOV
B&M Short Throw Shifter
Ultra Stiff Shifter Bushings
Front Strut Tower Bar
Rear Strut Tower Bar
Eibach Pro Lowering Springs

By the way. I love your car. I was looking through the gallery the other day and printed off some pics of it to put on my binders for school....haha

Thanks man. I appreciate the complements. :thumb:

Air Filter--------K&N 3000GT FIPK

Apexi N1 Cat-Back Exhaust / Apexi N1 Downpipe
-----------I would go with the Megan Racing stuff. Cheap and good quality from what I have see and heard.

GReddy Upper & Lower IC Pipes-----Check out Ebay, you can find it cheap
GReddy Type S BOV-------------------Same here

B&M Short Throw Shifter-----------Use B&M, good quality and won't break like other junk on Ebay
Ultra Stiff Shifter Bushings------Get the poly bushing for the shifter base ($20shipped) and the solid brass inserts for the endlink ($20shipped)

Front Strut Tower Bar / Rear Strut Tower Bar--------Get a cheap bar. It will do its job. Most use the ones that cost $5 but $30 to ship. It is ok to do that. It does its job.

Eibach Pro Lowering Springs--------I use Tein S-Tech, they were cheaper and look great :thumb:

Hope that helps.

Alright man, thanks soo much for the information. You have helped a lot. I hope to get my car pretty soon and then get started on mods. Keep in touch. Thanks for everything....

No problem. That is what we are here for.

When you get it, just look up this thread and go from there.

Look at how many are being sold with over 100,000 miles on them. They seem to do fine until we come along and make them "better".
