Hello, what relay is this by the ecu? Fuel pump relay? MFI relay? And are there any other relays supposed to be it this general area? One is disconnected the other is connected. Looks like it one was replaced and the other one (bad one) was just left there? This is a 90 1g GSX. My friend just bought it and the guy who he bought it from did a hack job on most of the work he did to it. Thanks in advance.

I know that when I turn the fuel pump on with dsmlink when the car is off, a relay clicks by the ECU. Sorry I can't help more than that.

That's the MPI relay. You can see where it should be bolted. I can't tell what the other one is.

Hey Steve, that second relay laying at the bottom is the same relay but it’s disconnected??? So obviously the previous owner had a problem with this relay changed it out and didn’t even bother to take the other one out and bolt the new one down. Is that a dealer part or will they have that relay at any auto part store? Because I just want to gets this thing running. Even though I don’t know for sure if that is what the problem is. He said it started and was barely running and that relay kept on clicking on and off multiple times then the car died. I am trying to diagnose this prob over the phone with him since I am in Missouri and he is in Chicago. Thanks for all the help.

As far as I know it's a dealer only part (or junk yard). I don't think they really go bad but they are real easy to test if you know how a relay works and know the pinout. Usually what your describing is a ECU problem from capacitor leakage damage or a problem with the power, low voltage or bad connections at the battery.

Steve, thanks for the help. It all started after a rain. I am going to see if there are any error codes tonight. Also, I will look around for the pinout and see what is happening with the relay. I can't believe that two would just go bad, unless I am just having some horrid luck. I will make it a point to pull the ECU and check for leakage sooner rather than later. I am going to make a short write-up of what happened, and post what I find in case someone else is having this problem.

Thanks to our friends at the Manual CD site you can download the 1G fuel system section from http://www.ecanfix.com/users/manualc...leshooting.pdf and look at the MPI diagrams for the different models.
You can also download the 1G circuit diagrams http://www.ecanfix.com/users/manualc...it_diagram.pdf That section also includes the MPI diagrams plus most of the rest of the wiring in the car.
