Ok so we rebuilt my transmission on my 91 TSI AWD..... WE stuck a gear seat from what we think was a 2G into it.... works freeeking awesome!!!! All the gears are fluid like they where doubble syncroed or something.... but I have a problem with reverse.

I can go 2 to 1 to reverse and most of the time it will go into gear just fine.... and sometimes I can just jab the shifter over and go directley into reverse no problem... but sometimes no matter what I do it feels like it is going into another 1st gear or something with a lower gear ratio than I would expect to find if I slipped into 4th becasue I let up on the clutch a little and the car wants to go foward.... and some times when I can feel it trying to catch backwards it goes "CLUNK" and hopps a little and goes right into reverse.... I dont get it .... what could be wrong... I mean I can live with it... becasue it is not all the time.. but it is kinda diffrent going into a reverse with a clunk right before it or not going into reverse at alll....

Any Ideas?

alex,

i have an idea.. there is a slight chance when we put it togther.. (i was way freaking tired) that the arm that moves the revers idler gear up and down may be missing the tab on the end that actually fits unter the gear to move it.

its a small piece, and it can fall off the arm easily when it is removed. i will go through the parts in the box from the other trans, and if i find 2 of them... then we know what we gotta do....LOL

man, i knew we stayed up too dang late LOL

If that is the part that is missing can we put it in without taking the tranney out of the car?

Yeah I thought about that after I said it.... hahha... it is in the first housing. Oh well.... I can say that it is working better today than it did before.... the cold from the previos days might have caused that.
