Just browsing through the site, i notice a lot of people using clevite and other aftermarket main and rod bearings when they do a re-build.Is there a reason for that some of you aren't using factory mitsubishi parts (as in design flaws, quality) or is it just because it's cheaper? Any time iv'e gone through one of my honda or toyota motors, I ONLY use factory bearings and am wondering if it would be better for me to do that with my 4G63 as well?

Personal preference more than likely, I have never used a set of factory bearings on any motor that I have rebuild, but that is just how I was taught to do things.

I used clevite for all of my bearings and assembly greases because of there reputation and I use them in all the motor's I build and until one fails due to bearings I will stick with them. Price was a factor too but I like the fact that Clevite used triple metal technology in there bearings and now have new aluminum bearings :rocks: .

Bearing clearances is another reason, not all bearing manufacturers are exactly the same thickness. I have seen people use Mitsu over Clevite because the Mitsu's seemed to be a little tighter. I would also have to say options, you can get coated aftermarket bearings.

They are cheaper, better design, more customer help, and usually easier to attain.

Yea I would go with eather mitsubishi or clevite 77. Slowboy sells the 77s at what ever size you need and is what I went with.
