yea im goin to rebuild my 1.8 to use manily as a daily driver just curious to part ideas when rebuilding.. what would be best without price cost killing me and still give me what little gain i can get.. ( 1.8 5sp )
thanks

the rebiuld kit from www.machv.com would be the best and comes with everthing for a complete rebiuld.. thats what i would recomend, and also bore the block .20 over which the pistons come in the kit if specified and deck the head, thats the best and easiest way to get hp trust me i've done it and got 7-10 hp from it with supporting mods. my compression ratio is between 200-205 across the board which stock is like 175-180 from the factory.. with these things done and with a nice quiet cat back and intake ud have a nice running 1.8.. :thumb:

awesome.. thanks.. $499 isnt bad.. but would it be cheaper to buy them indivually or like this. Also you said your compression ratio is up now.. Is that just cause you had it bored.20 and with this kit or did you do other things?
i also looked at your pics and noticed a smaller looking air filter thing up and to the right of your air filter.. what is that..LOL feel like a tard askin but dont know if i dont ask..
thanks

his compression is higher because he milled the head. this makes the combustion chamber smaller, and the compression higher

i wouldn't buy it indivually its better if u just get a kit... yes i did get the higher compresion from shaving my cylinder head.. those pics in my gallery are old there before the top end rebiuld i have alot more done to it now... and that little filter is from my vavle cover, i put a filter on it cause the pipe ran to my intake pipe and it leaked oil into my intake and in the manifold this way with the filter it keeps the air going in my valve cover clean but also keeps my intake track clean from oil... :thumb:

nice.. with that all done do you feel a nice difference when driving? I know you cant do much to the 1.8 but im sure what ever is done your goin to be able to tell LOL..i just want a good running daily drive and with the 141,000 miles i have now.. figure nows a good time to get all my parts together.. also... changing the timing belts in the 1.8 hard or not? cause i know i need it done.. its been well over 45k + since i have.. thanks for all the input

no its not to hard...
first put a jack under nieth the oil pan and jacked the engine up alittle so it holds the engine up. then take the engine mount off. take off all your belts. take off the a/c tensioner, and then the water pump and powersteering pump pulley's off of the water pump. then turn the wheel to the left and take off the shield on the drivers side so u can see your crank pulley, then take the crank pulley off (4, 12mm bolts i think). and then take off the shield covering the timming belt, top and bottom covers. rotate the engine to top dead center or until all the marks line up on the cam, crank, and oil pump.to take the belt off loosen the 2 tensioner bolts, then take the belt off and install the new one. to get the belt tight i put a small pry bar behind the pulley and pried it foward and tightened the bolts. check the belt to make sure its tight then make sure all the marks line up and rotate the engine acouple of times by turning the crank with a socket wrench to douple check they all line up perfect. then everything is reverse.. use this as a guide.. hope this helps :thumb:

LOL damn.. thats alot of stuff but it has to be done.. thanks for the info and help man... maybe it sounds like more of a pain then it really is..so im figuring a few hours for this job... or im debating if it would just be easier to take it somewhere hehe

if u plan on rebiulding the engine you could wait untill the engine is out and everything is right there because it all has to come off anyways..

LOL well thanks.. but if i was to get any car.. it would be a 90 - early 92 awd 5sp T one of the 3 LOL..
