95 talon tsi...makes a clacking noise when I press the brakes down or if I hit a big bump...only on passenger rear tire...warped rotor? Bad brakes? Shocks? Struts? Help!!! I bought shocks waiting for them to come in

check the clearance of the wear piece on the brakes. It may have gotten bent or warped rotor. Check your rear axel nut and cotter pin too, to make sure it has not come loose either. Lastly, check the bearings by shaking the wheel side to side and left to right. Worn suspension parts/wheel bearings can cause all kinds of issues.

Ok thanks ill.check it later today...I hope its nothing serious...I thought it was shocks I just bought a rear pair for 80$ the other day :(...since I'm newer to dsm where exactly is the axel nut and cotter pin and the stabilizer links and bushings?? Pictures would help very much...

Just take the tire/rim off of the studs and there will be a huge (32mm?) nut mounted smack dab in the middle of the rotor. Check it for looseness and that the cotter pin is still intact.

Like Cliff said, rock the tire top to bottom very firmly to feel for any slop. Same with left to right. It should be feel ridgid and firm, no looseness. If you have a prybar it will be much easier to feel any irregularities throughtout the suspensions' travel.

Raise the tire off the ground just enough for a long prybar or pipe, etc to fit (at least 2 feet long, longer is better) now pull up on the bar with a strong even pull, this should also feel ridgid with no looseness anywhere.

This picture shows the stabilizer bar and the end link which has a small pivot ball and socket (ball joint). If the dust seal looks cracked just replace the end link.

Ok the axle nut is tight...there is a nail on place of where cotter pin should be...Idk of that's the prob? Um tire doesn't move up down left or right...its tight...which OS the stabilized bar? The bottom one or the curvy one that comes down from top?

The stabilizer bar is the curvy one coming in from the top. The nail isn't a problem so long it doesn't come out somehow and pop your tire rofl

There's so many things in that area that can cause a clunking sound you will just have to probe around with a prybar..hopefully someone will know more specifically what is the most likely, but I'll still try to help

Ok...I checked it...it wiggles a little at each end...but I'm only gettin noise from passenger side? I replaced the nail with a cotter pin anyway...I might have to just start replacing stuff til it goes away...:(

Look behind the tire while rocking the tire side to side /up and down to make sure there's nothing rocking in the suspension. At that point it could be a bad wheel bearing inside the hub assembly.

IIRC have someone hold the brake pedal down while you try to rock the tire back and forth. If its becomes solid with no more looseness its something in the hub assembly outward quite possibly the bearing. If its still loose, the problem lies in the suspension.

Check all your suspension, wheel, etc bolts are tight and that the disc pads still have some meat first

Breaking and when I hit big bumps...I think I found out what it is...the bushings in my upper knuckles are bad...the metal is touching each other...I just bought the bushings off eBay...waiting for them to come in...wish me luck...pa installed new rear struts...driver one didn't come up at all when spring was takin off passenger barely came up so they needed replaced anyways...

problem solved: after closer look i saw my upper control arm (where it connects to the spindle) bushings were almost gone...replaced them and no more noise!
