rear differential replacement.

OK basically I am looking to replace my rear differential due to high level of noise its putting out. The shops wants close to 600 bucks to service it and i think it would be more cost effective to just find a used one to replace it with. I dont know crap about the drivetrain. I see the DSM comes in 3 bolt and 4 bolt rear ends. Does a 95 AWD come with a certain one? What do I need to be looking for? Will any rear differential from a DSM work as long as its the same 3 bolt or 4 bolt? Do I need to replace the whole rear end of I find a LDS unit? Let me know what I should be looking for. thanks.

92+ have a 4-bolt rear.

Yours may or may not have an LSD (limited slip differential).

if u go to a junk yard look inside the driverside door panel there will be an orange sticker stating equipped with LSD, if it don't got the sticker it don't got LSD

However, a rear LSD became standard equipment in 99.......no sticker, but still a LSD.

The 95 uses a completely different rear end than the 1Gs. And all 2Gs are not equal either. The 95/96 used a different spline count than 97-99.

BTW the LSD was not standard in 99.
