Driving down the road, if you were to take your foot off the pedal but keep it in gear, you hear a rattle of sort coming what seems to be from the back of the car. But as soon as you apply a little gas (even just enough to keep a constant speed) it goes away. The engine is getting rebuilt at the moment. And I'm replacing the rear diff anyway. The reason I'm asking about this is because I've heard of people thinking the sound was coming from the back, when it was coming from the front.

The tranny is a JDM, C51PH, the car is a 1990, so that's a 3 bolt rear. I recently found out that it was a JDM, and I'm sure that those two shouldn't go together. I'm getting a 4bolt rear to put on the car, and I think that the c51ph tranny and a 4bolt rear match. But It was driven about 10k with the JDM tranny and 3bolt rear, what should I look for on the tranny or t-case for damage? And does that problem sound like it would be the rear diff, or could it have been something else?

When you say rattle is it like a vibration? Have you checked the driveshaft carrier bearing?

Theres some vibration, but like go "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" with your mouth.. sounds like that ;p But it only does it when i let off the gas, and like engine brake or something like that, not when I give it gas or neutral

Any ideas, or what to look for to make sure the tranny is ok? Also, can someone back me up on the jdm tranny matching with the 4bolt rear?

any finds to this problem i am getting the same exact symptoms, i was thinking aluminum carrier bearing bushings may fix it but I'd like to know what your problem was first?
thx :)
