I have been trying for the last 3hrs to compress the rear caliper piston to put in brake pads. I Have the tool to compress the piston that you add on a socket wrench but it won't fit properly and keeps hitting the piston wall when turning. I have tried to use needlenose pliers but I got 3 full turns in the last 2hrs, and so many cuts while trying to turn. Is there anything else I could try? because I swear the piston is not compressing at all. I'm so frustrated that I just want to the old pads on (even though there is no pad left)

help
thanks

I just dealt with this myself. My 2cents worth- You said the tool wasn't fitting properly, are you sure you have the right size. Those things come in at least three different sizes and the wrong size will not grip the piston well and tend to slip off. The brakes on my '92 Talon look factory and the pistons did take a lot of effort. I think that on cars this old, if the brakes have never been bled, the old brake fluid can gum up the piston and make it difficult to compress. Good luck.

The cube tool, as you found out, doesn't really fit inside the caliper when threading the piston back down on the parking brake self-adjuster.

I have a round Craftsman one I bought many years ago that works great. I'm pretty sure they still sell them.
