Rear brake lights arew barely engaging

Got pulled over another day by a police officer, he told me that my rear brake lights were not engaging. No ticket, everything is fine, but what i noticed is, at night my rear lights are very bright like i drive with a foot on breaks all the time and they DO engage (light up even more) but you barely see the difference. What could possibly cause that ? I also have my spoiler light ON all the time, and i want it to engage only when i break, how do i do that ?

Your brakelight switch could be the cause of your problem.

I would pull the bulbs and check the condition of the contacts at the bottom of the sockets. I have had to fix 2 or 3 in my 2 2gs over the years (sometimes out or intermittent- could be a tenuous connection).

I would check the switch at the back side of the brake peddle. All the rain and mud on your shoes for years will make it sick

+1 Especially if you've been parking your car upside-down, such that the rain and mud can get to the switch, which is located near the top of the lever-arm for the pedal, behind the dash.

Ahahaha so i have not checked anything yet except i turned on hazard lights on and noticed that my left and right lights were switching periodically and spoiler light shut off, i believe that the wiring is messed up if it does such a crazy thing

what works best is a ziptie to use as a spacer so it hits quicker
