Its been a while since i've posted on here. But I recently did a tranny swap on my 91 tsi. Well in the mean time of it sitting a few months. I got in and started it and its idleing very rough and reading about 7lbs of boost, I know the stock gauge is not accurate, and when you try to rev it it wont go past about 1700 rpm's without stuttering. But if you unplug the mass air flow sensor it idles out fine it will just run very rich. One of the wires in the MAS plug was pulled out so I took out the crimp and re soldered it back on and that didnt work. So I was just curious if it could just be the sensor and plug. or is there something else that could cause this as well. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I'm not sure about crimping a vital connection such as that. I would go through and solder/electrical tape the connection; at the same time, check all other connections that you may have forgotten/looked over.

Also, check with any friends that may have a boost gauge you can borrow. It's easy to hook-up -- especially if you aren't using lights (which you won't be for diagnostics). Try to use a mechanical gauge if you can, as this problem seems to be electronic. If the ECU is reading a weird boost (like 7 psi at idle), this may very well be electronic.

Keep us updated and good luck!

If your car is running bad and loading up you might build very little boost i have seen in with some guys hacking up turbo hondas.

You definitly wouldnt build any boost at idle with no load on the engine that doesnt make sense, get your self a boost gauge. If the mass , or wiring is at all screwed up it it certainly possible to cause the problems you are having. I dont think its a good idea to unplug the mass and run the car either... Its there for an important reason.
