So I'm doing my first 4g63t rebuild and have some questions regarding the oil pump. Could I get by reusing the oil pump gears and getting a new oem front case or would it be more wise to get the whole new case and gears. I checked out the front case and it doesn't look horrible but still not to sure being this is my first 4g63t build. Any one know where I could get specs for the gears and maybe some advice about how to approach this speed bump in my build.

Assuming the gears are still in spec and not worn anywhere then it would be fine. If you want 100% piece-of-mind then get new gears.

I checked the FSM to see what the specs are for the gears. Mine were in spec and my front case looked good so I went ahead and re-used the set in my rebuild. The car did start with good oil pressure, but I haven't driven it much to see if it will hold up. I think if I were to re-do my rebuild or in any future rebuilds the gears and front case would be changed regardless. As for 100% peace of mind, I have heard of a couple of rebuilds with brand new gears and case that have failed. Not sure of the brand they used, but still it can happen.

I 100% agree with you

Nothing is completely fool proof as there are multiple reasons a failure could happen. Anywhere from miss calculated specs to oil contamination. New is generally going to be safer to use than used.

Very true. That is the reason why I would go with a brand new set as it would likely be safer than my quality spec check:notgood:. I did it mainly because at the time I was in a hurry to assemble the motor back together. Now I have a little more patience to wait for parts especially one this critical:thumb:. So if you have any doubts just order a brand new one for the I would say 99% peace of mind.

Check the face of the case under the gears for wear. Check the clearance between teeth tips and case with feeler gauge against specs. You should also check end play of the gears with feeler gauge and a straight edge.

As far as new oil pumps go, I was taught to always debur the gear's edges because you never know if the mfr did it.

Ok I will have find the specs for those gears and what not and see how bad it is. Is there any other sites around that may have a more reasonable price on their OEM products? Compared to the other sites like MAP, Extreme Psi, etc.

Ok so I had my local machinist check the oil pump out today and said it all looked good. Just have to clean up some of the scratches on the gear(s) cover probably with some sand paper on a flat surface. There also isn't any play and clearances look good so gunna give re-using it a shot. Thanks for the replies btw
