alright guys, i have a 98 gsx i bought as a roller with the block tranny and transfer case, the block didn't come with the crank girdle, and i've heard that if i buy another from another motor i must send them off to the machine shop to get the bolt holes re-drilled. long story short would it be easier to pick up a 7 bolt long block and just drop her in? I gotta buy a head, piston rods bearings, all accessories and manifolds. im on a 3000 dollar budget.

Your post confuses me, however a running 7 bolt complete long block can cost anywhere from $400-$600. Manifolds, alternators, whatever else you need can be had off the forums. I'm sure you can do it for far under $3000.

Though if all you need is a crank girdle, http://www.streettunedmotorsports.com/parts/kiggly_racing_6_bolt_dsm_main_girdle.htm will set you back $120 and should need no machining to work.

I didn't think you could use the kiggly girdle on a 7-bolt?

You can't... I am pretty confused with the way he worded his first post. Couldn't tell if it was a 6 or 7 bolt. I apologize.

Motor swap cost doing it yourself, $800 for the motor and parts. Paying someone else, add up to another $1000 in labor.

Personally, not knowing the condition of the block that came in rolling chassis, I would go for the motor swap. That being said, a machine shop shouldn't charge much to have the bolt holes re-drilled.

In order for us to help you we need to know what you have under the hood.

If you look around, you can pick up another motor relatively cheap.

I put a 6 bolt in my 2g about 2 weeks ago and I paid $200 for a long block, swapped my 2g head and I put new head gasket and head studs and im only at about $300 for a motor.

I'm unsure if your looking for a built motor because of your budget, but keep your eyes peeled. You can definitely get this up and going well within your budget.
