I slammed into a curb with my rear passenger wheel and now I've got some problems. When I'm driving down the road the rear end will randomly sway back and forth, especially when driving on snow/ice. I replaced the bent rim, rear upper control arm, and wheel bearing assembly. I also checked the lower arm, stabilizer bar, and trailing arm and they all seem fine also. When I'm driving down the road it pulls pretty hard to the right now too. Is it the shock itself that's bad?

In all honesty, I don't like other people working on my car. I would rather figure this out and save myself money by fixing it in my garage rather than mitsubishi ripping me off. What I don't understand is why it's pulling so hard now. Nothing is bent in the rear, maybe it's the tire I have on the rim.

Take the rim to a tires plus (or whatever tire store you have by you) and have them check the balance. If they're not busy, they'll probably do it for free or whatever they charge to mount/balance a tire.

I feel sure your alignment is out. You need to take it to a good local shop and get the alignment right. The tech should loosen all the bolts and can tell if something is still bent or binding.

Neither do I, but there are some things I can't do. Alignment, mount & balance tires, auto trans fluid flush with a machine. I do everything else on all 3 of my cars and have for 16 years. It is a necessary evil to have the right equipment do the jobs I can't. It only takes about 1/8" toe to pull bad and that is freaking hard to eyeball even for professional DSMers like us! :D I paid Mitsu to align my GSX a few months back and it was worth every penny. Especially cause I had them add some neg camber and some rear toe that the book didn't call for. :thumb:

I didn't know there was a way to adjust the alignment in the rear on a FWD car? I took it on for a drive in the snow and the wheel feels like it flops back and forth. I know for sure my strut is totally shot, maybe that's what causing all of this.

I am not 100% sure about a 2g. I assume that you have independent rear suspension with control arms and trailing arms that should be able to adjust toe and camber to a certain extent.

Yeah, it could possibly be the strut. If its completely blown then there is nothing to dampen the movement and the rear will just flop around and bounce on the spring.

You can take some measurements of the rear to see if both sides are equal. It is fairly crude, since tolerances are pretty tight when it comes to alignment. There are people that can do there own alignment with a few special tools. I bumped into a thread here before and was quite intrigued, but would rather spend the $80 for now until I find time to learn that art.
