cambridge,
Hey guys,

I am now at the point where i have the timing belt off and am ready to crank the engine to remove the crank pulley to allow me to remove the tensioner belt.

My question is since i already have the timing belt off the car wont i loose the timing when i crank the engine?

The vfaq going step by step says to remove timing belt then is says to crank engine - that make me think that i should be able to kick it over - is that correct??

Thanks for the help....

Thanks,

But why would the vfaq tell me to remove the camshaft belt before using a breaker bar to loosen the pulley? that seems kind of screwy?

I guess that i will head out there again, reinstall the old belt, kick it over and then remove both belts?

Yes DO NOT CRANK IT W/O Timing Belt or you will probably be getting a head rebuilt or a new one.

Hey guys,

what do you suggest then, i really want to get out there to finish the job...

should i put the belt back on and then kick it to loosen the pulley?

any other suggestions?

wow,

so i put the belt back on, took the tension tool off and reinstalled the auto tensioner.

that was a lot of extra work. anyway, i kicked it over and got the bolt loose.

then i had to manually turn the engine over ~ 50x to get the top and bottom end to line up (with the white out marks i put on the t belt. - the balance belt still doesnt line up with my white out on that belt but i figure as long as the t belt marks and arrows are lined up the tension belt doesnt matter...

i sure wish the vfaq told me to loosen the crank nut first not after removing the t belt
hasnt any one else noticed that??

I assume i need to get a gear puller now to remove the crank sprocket.

Any other tips before i do everything 2x again LOL
