I don't understand why I need to use the relay that they show here http://www.vfaq.com/mods/pump-relay.html Can't I just go 10 gauge wire from the battery, put in a fuse, go to switch so I can turn the fuel pump on and off (to help with theft) and then just continure running the wire to my fuel pump? I'm guessing the relay is so that the fuel pump will come on when I turn the key on, but if I put the switch in it then I don't need the realy, correct?

A switch would be another way to do it yes.

If you look at the way the relay is wired thats basically all it's doing is powering up the pump once the key is turned. So if you remember to flip the switch everytime you get in the car then you're fine.

Thanks :thumb:

Using a relay with the original wiring controlling it maintains the ECU's ability to shut the fuel pump off in case the engine stops and reduces the chance of feeding an engine fire. You can still put a switch in the circuit for theft prevention.

Funny, I was about to post on this just yesterday but I got lazy and decided to watch a movie instead. How come you cant just use all of the OEM stuff and just replace that crappy wire with a 10 gauge one? I dont want any problems with fires in the event of an emergency.

I've got the same question about this subject........Is this an easy mod to do? Is it going to be well-worth my time? How is it going to benefit my engine?

You need to look at how the existing system works. It's not as simple as swapping out one wire with another larger wire. You need to replace all the wires from the pump to the MPI relay, to the ignition switch and then to the fuse box and back to the battery with a larger wire. The rewire takes a simpler attack, rather than try upgrading all the stock wires and the problems taking the existing connectors apart and reassembling them, just provide a low resistance power feed near the pump and use the existing circuit to switch that on and off.
