helloooo

i have a 6 bolt in a 2g with stock 2g 97 ecu and i can't get it "inspected" with the CEL on so i bought a obd2 scanner and this is what it says:

PO170 Fuel Trim Malfunction
PO136 o2 sensor circuit malfunction (Bank 1 sensor 2)
PO141 Downstream Ho2S Heater Failure (m/t)
P1400 Manifold Differential Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction

it says i have 8 codes but it just repeats the first 4 again like this

PO170 Fuel Trim Malfunction
PO136 o2 sensor circuit malfunction (Bank 1 sensor 2)
PO141 Downstream Ho2S Heater Failure (m/t)
P1400 Manifold Differential Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction
PO170 Fuel Trim Malfunction
PO136 o2 sensor circuit malfunction (Bank 1 sensor 2)
PO141 Downstream Ho2S Heater Failure (m/t)
P1400 Manifold Differential Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction

i know the P1400 is because i took my map sensor out but will be putting that back in, but as for the rest of the codes..

can the PO170 be tied into the o2 sensor being bad?

and do both of those o2 sensor codes just mean the sensor is bad? also which is it? when it says sensor 2 im guessing its the one furthest from the turbo?

and for the PO170 my fuel mods are walbro 255 rewired, 660s, afpr set at 45psi with the vacuum line off if that info is needed

any help would be greatly appretiated :thumb:

Frank,

It looks like you should go ahead and replace both O2 sensors. As for the SAFC-I, I had a brain fart yesterday and was confusing it with the old knob style controllers. As for the sensor checks, it really depends on what was hooked up to those inputs. If you hooked up the front O2 to the SAFC (which you really shouldn't do) then that voltage is correct.

Anyway, with such bad gas mileage, low O2 voltage and the P0170, replacing your O2 sensor is going to be my advice without being able to see the car.

As for the Hi and Low throttle settings, I can't really help you without seeing a log. You really should invest in a logger. :thumb:

To save a few bucks you could use an O2 simulator in place of the rear O2 sensor:thumb:
I wasn't sure if anyone mentioned that but it is a good way to save some money. Those sensors can get expensive:beatentodeath:

Good Luck

Thanks alot! But I dont think that would solve my CEL due to the fact that i have a PO141 Downstream Ho2S Heater Failure (m/t) and by the looks of the installation wiring diagram on that website, it looks like the heater wire isn't touched leading me to think that I would still have that code.

Thanks for the help!

I've been reading up on these o2 simulators and heater circuit resistors and it seems to give some people problems with a PO139 Downstream HO2S Stays at center (m/t) (slow response).
So I think i'm just going to order 2 new o2 sensors from www.sparkplugs.com and leave the back one aluminum foiled and zip tied LOL. They are plug and play and you can't really beat $106 for both :thumb: .

Thanks for the help! And I will keep you updated.
-Frank

Yep, you are getting both sensors for less than what I paid the dealer for one. It's all Andy's fault. :)

LOL :p ordered them at lunch time!

Has anyone ever bought an o2 sensor off of sparkplugs.com? The reason I ask is because the front o2 sensor on our cars has that longgg wire and plug and i'm HOPING that the sensor i'm getting will have a long wire too to plug into the engine harness and I wont have to waste even more time ordering an extension.:thumb:

Thanks!
-Frank

I'm thinking it will be a long wire because on the order and on the website it says no cutting is required.. They are plug and play and that they are "Denso OE identical O2 sensor"

I'm just hoping I wont find out I need an extension when they get here.

-Frank

Well, Andy was the one that recommended the site, so if they don't give you the right one, just blame it on him. :)

I'm pretty sure that's where he said he gets his, so you should be fine.

Nice, I'll let you know what happens. They are scheduled for delivery Monday.

Thanks!

Thats next on the "to buy" list.

Thanks for the help!

No problem. I glad we were able to get you back to normal. :thumb:

Now this may be a pretty noob question but, If I post logs on here you guys could give me some advice as to what I should do with my SAFC I settings right?

Thanks Again!
-Frank

You won't be able to do very much since you are still running the factory injectors. I would suggest that you pick up some 650's as your next mod. Then we can start cranking down the MBC :sneaky:

Check my mod list :thumb: I have 660s, a rewired walbro 255lph, and an afpr.

Was that there yesterday?!?!?! Damn, I'm getting old. :D

As for tuning, I'll be more than happy to help you out. There are some things you need to do before you start. You may have done some already while working with your CEL's, but I'll go over them anyway.

1. Gap plugs to 0.028"
2. Leak check
3. Normal maintence, such as oil change, plugs, wires, fuel filter, PCV valve, timing belt (if needed), etc.
4. Program settings for SAFC, such as Ne Points, TPS trigger points, sensor type
5. Set STFT & LTFT on the low throttle map using your logger
6. Set your Hi Throttle table to -25% across the board.
6. Verify on logger that your TPS reads >95% at WOT.
7. Make a 3rd gear pull from 2.5k to redline logging timing, O2 (Front), airflow, and rpm only.
8. Post up your log

That is just the condensed version, but if you need clairification on any points let me know. You should also read this:

WELL!!! My PO170 came back! :notgood: I think it may be due to my safc settings are out of whack.. Damn I need a logger..

It came back after about 75 miles of no check engine lights and I was cruising at about 40mph in 4th gear:rolleyes:

Ah crap!!!! :toobad:

Can you post up your low throttle SAFC settings?

Did you order your logger yet? ;)

My settings now are:
Low settings:
1k -5%
2k -10%
3k -18%
4k -18%
4.5k -18%
5k -18%
6k -18%
7k -18%
High settings:
1k -23%
2k -26%
3k -28%
4k -35%
4.5k -34%
5k -37%
6k -38%
7k -38%

Throttle points are:
Low 35% and High 85%

Thanks!

My settings:confused:

They look pretty much like mine. The problem is that the low throttle settings are the ones that set the FT's. Mathematically, they should be in the -31% range, but that is not always the case. All cars are different when it comes to the low throttle settings.....for example, my low settings are between -10 & -15%. Yours could be different, but I really can't say without seeing a logger output. Sorry!

Alright, I think i'm going to pick myself up an M130 on ebay right now then order pocketlogger next week. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks so much for the help so far,

Sounds like a plan. ;)

I was able to get a m130 for about $30, shipped from ebay. It didn't come with a serial hotsync cable, so I had to spend another $10 on that.

Let me know when you get the logger.
