Question about knock

Ok so I have been doing alot of reading on the forums lately trying to figure out why my car isnt running like it should. I have been reading up on knock, but i got a little confused. This is what I get from what i read, please correct me if im wrong. When NO knock is detected, the ecu goes into a safe mode pulling timing to lower cylinder pressure and reduce detonation caused by unburnt fuel mixture. It also dumps fuel into the cylinder to furthur reduce detonation and even better pre-detonation. If TO MUCH knock is detected, the ecu will reduce timing and also reduce boost via the bcs to try to fix the knock.

How far from right am I? My main focus is on too much knock reducing boost becauseim thinking that is whats happening to me. Any intput will be appreciated. Thanks guys.
 
Your partially right. When no knock is detected he ECU increases timing gradually throughout the RPM range, when too much knock is detected it retards timing, the more knock, the less timing..the less timing, the crappier it runs. Best way to really find out is get a pockelogger, the cablke and software to monitor your engine peramaters.

it wont actually cause too much knock, just send false signals of knock, which you will get the effect of knock, without actually having knock
