Question about fuel guage

On a 1999 eclipse gsx I just bought a car that sat in storage for 7 years and hasn't been started since, when I bought it there wasn't a battery installed at all but the gas gauge said half full, is that normal for having no battery? With or without a battery it shows half full still.

Also, I need to drain the gas since its old. Now Which fuel line do I need to disconnect to drain the fuel, the passenger side or driver side of the fuel rail? The drivers side runs to the fuel regulator. And where exactly is this connecter I use to turn on the fuel pump with 12v? The battery was relocated to the trunk and Im not sure where exactly the battery was relocated from. Some say behind the battery so idk.. Was the battery in passenger side, front behind light? Thanks

On a 2g the gas gauge doesn't go down when the car is off or disconnected. To drain disconnect the passenger side of the fuel rail which is the feed. After that you might as well disconnect the other side if your goal is to get as much old gas out as possible. To drain the fuel system, disconnect on the DRIVER's side of the rail (so you flush and drain the rail as well) and add a hose to a collection bucket. There is a small set of plugs comming from the harness about the middle of the firewall about 12"-16" down. One is bright blue, and next to it, the other is black. Pull the plug off the BLACK conector and jump it to 12V+ of the battery. This will activat the fuel pump. Let it run until all the fuel is out, and stop imediately after (dont run the pump dry!). Then fill the tank with fresh fuel, and activate the pump again, running a bit of the fresh fuel out into the collection tank. Reconnect the fuel line, put the cap back on the fuel pump jump terminal and your done!

There should also be a 24mm (roughly sized) bolt on the bottom of the gas tank that you can remove to drain the tank out as well. The above mentioned would be good to do with fresh gas to flush out the lines and remove any build up of crap sitting in the lines!

Thanks for the replies. So disconnect the drivers side and add a line to the fuel rail? Is it 3/8 fitting? And let me get one thing straight, the fuel is pumped to the passenger side of the fuel rail, then the return line from the drivers side, to the regulator, and then through the gas filter and back to the tank?

I cant find the connector I know its a swapped 6 bolt motor so maybe that has something to do with it but the area its supposed to be in is gutted out basically
