This is a car i got out in the middle of bfe for next to nothing with a bad turbo and a grocery list of issues. I ended up ripping tons of stuff off of it to finish up and sell an auto awd 1gb i got from the same people. A couple months after i sold the auto i began to source parts for the purple car. Getting her sorted for sure. Been working for a few hours here and there for the past month or so. Installed new syncros in the transaxle after my wife put the final nail in the coffin while we were towing it home. She had to slap it in 2nd, motor off to avoid rear ending me in the truck. PO failed to mention it was missing a brake caliper. Soon she gets a new tbelt set. Today i filled the transaxle with brad penn gear lube and installed a brand new jnz 7cm turbine to manifold gasket. The past few days ive been fighting off water leaks and mold in the interior to great sucess. Its been raining all day and so far its bone dry inside. So far so good, i think this one will be a good little daily.

I have been super busy lately with the car... alot has happened... went thru an im selling it stage but shes still here. Sorry the pix are out of order in this tale so dont expect a story book experience kids... So i went crazy due to excessive mold discoveries and removed EVERY piece of the interior, literally everything. Next i drove to the car wash and blasted the inside of the car. Yes i had the body drain plugs out. Next i vacuumed it all out, yes still at the car wash. The vacuums just leak out when they are full and i just kept going until all the excess was gone. Repeated twice and all the mold and crap was gone. Looks like a fresh talon inside now. Afterward i grabbed the capet and did the same thing to it. Then i hung it up to dry for a couple days in the sun. After waiting a week for the parts, I installed a new timing belt set and tensioned it down to spec. Put all the covers, hoses, belts, mounts, all of it back on. Started right up first try and sounded ok but was barely idling. I sat down and had a vape session to ponder my issues. Quickly i remembered i installed a remanned ecu that i purchased here on tuners from a fellow dsmer and that it was not a 90... time to swap pins 6 and 14. Bam, done! Wow it runs nice now. Guess ill leave it here for now...a few days later it began to pour and blow like crazy, perfect chance to verify that all the leaks are gone... nope 2 left. Back around the hatch gasket it was leaking but some black will cure it for now until i replace the gasket. The other leak was down on the gasket for the rear wiper bottle. Same cure, black rtv. I use that crap everywhere to fix leaks... even my shoes LOL... ok all leaks fixed, now i drop in my recaro evo 8 seats. They are just sitting on the carpet until i sell off a 420a 2g i returned from the dead with a new transmission and clutch. Lady fled from the cops on foot and left the 2g on I-90 with a toasted clutch and NO 1st gearWTF... Anyhoo thats another story LOL. Now another few days later i finish up some little bits on the talon and my buddy and i decide to go down the street and back in the talon to hear her run. Idles fine for about 30 minutes, no overheating, everything seems ok on the laptop. We pull out of the gates and go north down bowdish, I creep into boost gently and immediatly peak to about 12lbs and hold it to about 4.5k rpm. I let off and it sounds/feels good. So i come into boost a couple more times like that before i decide to turn around back to the house. By the time i get to the yard i pull in the gates and the temp gage is at 75% OMG... shut her down and let it cool off for a bit. Long story short is the HG let go. Previous owner exuse in 3-2-1... seriously the guy i got it from ABUSED the piss out of this one and the auto i got from him, really its no surprise. The car has this residue all over the underside from being driven on the beach in salt water which made EVERY bolt on it a joy to remove :barf:. After pulling the drivetrain and inspecting the engines oil pan i found the balance shaft bearings for the front shaft have been spun and one was wadded up as tho it had been bashed thru the rotating assembly for a while... wow. Oh well now my plans are to rebuild the entire engine and make it a totally restored 1990 eagle talon. Im probably going with a forged bottom end and a cammed head. Id like to have it back by this winter but who knows what will happen. Since its been apart ive just been refreshening the paint on the trim panels and rewiring various connectors as well as the stereo. I have routed all the amp/sub wires thru the carpet under the passenger side seat. I even spliced in universal color coded wires for the stereo harness for future ease of install. This car was about to be a daily until something went wrong, well somthing already went wrong so now its been bumped up to a project build:beatentodeath:!!! Screw it i need a fast 1g LOL!!

So today i took a closer look at the bottom end. All the pieces to the rotating assembly reek of cooked motor oil yuck!:barf: The main bearings look as tho they were pretty tired also. Im going to replace the crank i think now, unless a micropolish will suffice. Hard to say tho, i can feel the abrasions on the journals with my nails so yea... ive already got some acl bearings in my sights but im still wating for the 2g to find a new home before ill have any funding. Its crazy how bad the components were and how alright the motor sounded. It only had the beginning of the notorious DSM lifter tick. Im actually glad it happened like this, i now have an exuse ( for the wife ) as to WHY i NEED to buy lots of dsm parts LOL

Really interested in seeing how this turns out..i just bought my first one a 94 6 bolt 4 bolt swap and pretty sure i stretched a stud or lifted the head like the second day of driving it. So long story short gonna pull the motor and just go through it.. But def really curious how urs goes!!

Mine had been sitting for a while with a bad turbo, i put on a "good" turbo and it was billowing out blu smoke... needless to say i picked up a rebuilt 14b and used the 7cm evo housing from the bad turbo and then the smoke went away. I know that is irrelavant to the head issue but thought id share. I have a few theories on mine, the first being that the hg was just weak from being pounded on by the po and not maintained at all. The neglect was outright dispicable. I know it wasnt the water pump, i just replaced it with a brand new one amd flushed the coolant system. Also verified proper coolant flow at the thermo housing. It all looked normal visually and on the laptop then poof blown head gasket. The gasket isnt obviously blown either, just has some carbon tracing around the combustion chamber sealing ring... im definatly open to other peoples theories as well...

Sounds like new Head Gasket time :D

So I woke up:boring:, had my coffee with the wife, ate breakfast, and then i pulled off the front cover and the crankshaft. The main bearings were about to let go, the rest of the BS bearings were about to let go, and the rod bearings looked alright. The journals to the BS are shot to hell LOL. Sludge buildup like a mofo accompanied by lovely metal shavings. The inside of this thing looks they used anti seize rather than engine oil! Ill be sending this thing off to be hot tanked and all that good stuff, after i get her back ill proceed to prep the block for a sweeet paintjob. Im going to really take my time everyday i work on this car and make sure everything ive put my hands on is refreshed and beautified. Ive been thinking too, after all this work i doubt ill stay with the 14b amd 390s, and once all that is upgraded properly the next issue ill be plagued by is the fact that the manual transmissions in these cars arent the strongest. I think i might try to trade someone all the stuff from my car to swap to a manual as long as they are willing to trade me all the stuff ill need to go auto from their car:aha:... plus i do like the consistant launches that can be replicated by an automagic as well as the fact that the road surge shift box can be utilized for neck snapping downshifts making for a good rolling pull... idk its all in the air right now and anything is possible...

Excited to see how it turns out!!
The plan is for it to be a drivable machine sometime this winter. For some reason i never seem to get my AWD in the winter, just my truck:idontknow: which isnt bad but i want that all wheel feel during the slipperies... we'll see what happens thru the spring, summer, and fall. I plan to keep updates during the whole build and the pix will keep coming, im a very visual guy and i know alot of our fellow dsmers feel the same way. plus pix are always good for referencing your work.

I will be watching this one because your posts are very entertaining. Good luck though.

Ok so... another twist in the plot arises... i have told you all about the 2g that i was going to use for funding, i have decided i do really need a car that gets better mpgs than my 02 silverado or the wifes lq9 trans am. I also decided i like 2gs they look sweet. So i (and my wife) decided we are going to just drive the 2g for a while. Im going to sell some car parts i have and my trans plus t case from the talon. Its ok, calm down:cry:... like i said earlier, after some thought i really want an auto in the talon for several reasons. No offense manual guys, i just have had enough of these cars where im to the point that the auto is more suitable for my needs. Im going to sell the 14b as well, and no offense 14b guys i know the 14b is great and quite capable but i really want a td06 or hx35 or possibly an hx40 for my power goals long term. I have definatly flipped some things around but now i have to upgrade when the time comes which does not hurt my feelings. At this point ill be refreshening various things on the talon as it sits so that when this eagle spreads its wings next it will be as glorious as in 1990 when it was new. I want a fresh 1g that looks clean and shows the blood, sweat, and tears endured. Also id like one that has no issues and is fast for a while before it breaks.
