My clutch is shot so i need to replace it, so I need to pull my transmission. This my first time pulling the tranny, and I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips or advice before I go and do it. Also, how long does it usually take remove the tranny, clutch and flywheel then install it all?

well if u really want to have it easy go buy the book... but u will probably have problems pullin the tranny out cause the thing will hit up against the like plate or bracket or whatever the hell it is stickin out the car... i will see what i mean, i didn't have a tranny jack so i just wiggled it out with a pair of coveralls wrapped around the tranny. and i learned this timin savin trick the other day, u don't have to pull the whole axle out... pop the lower ball joint out and slide the axles out the tranny just a bit so u can rest them ontop the tranny as opposed to takin the whole thing out, driver axle have a mountin bracket to the body... but seriously go pick up a book, pm me if u need any help

From what I have read a tranny jack makes it alot easier, I am thinking about buying an adapter for a normal jack. I have the chilton's service manual and I read through it a few times, on paper it doesn't seem to bad. But, if you factor in the rusted bolts and stuff, it could be a PITA.

I just tore into mine and went from there. Biggest PITA for me was getting the bellhousing back up to the block.

My tip - make sure the dowel pins don't fall out.

How I usually get the tranny out is lay on my back directly under tranny and just pull it down on your chest. I'm not a very big guy though. Same procedure to put it back in. just make sur eyou got a buddy on the op under the hood b/c you will need him too line up the bell housin bolts and get the two top ones started.

Sorry didn't realize it was AWD One I do is FWD. Sorry

i just pulled it down on my chest and rolled it on the floor. same way to put it back, except in reverse.

p.s. im a big guy though, you may need a extra set of hands pressing it up to your engine and linning it up while your supporting the whole weight of the trans.

I just got done this week doing my friends clutch and flywheel on his AWD. Here are some good tips, Have some extra money set aside for parts, just in case if you break some. Buy an OEM throw out bearing cause the one that came with my friends didn't fit at all. When taking out the tranny make sure that the half shaft is undone from the back of the block and totally pulled out from the tranny. And have some time set aside to work on it. Finally, get a manual it will be your best friend.

P.S it's easy coming out, but going back in is whole different story. (We a used a normal 3ton floor jack)

GOOD LUCK

i watched my buddy take out all the bolts....and just let his busted trans fall onto a concrete floor LOL

I take the front wheels off, both axles, intake piping, battery, downpipe to o2 housing bolts, and tcase off. Also starter and ground wires and misc shit. Then I remove all bolts from tranny then wiggle that bi*** to the ground. A very small tranny jack would be superb. Or just get a friend to come over and help. Make sure you align the clutch disc good unless you have an alignment tool, when reinstalling. Also grease everything!

yes make sure you put a little grease on the shaft where the tob is.

another tip. take off the bottom radiator hose. i spliced mine when i put my tranny back in and had to spend an xtra $15. and yes an xtra set of hands is always nice.

good luck and have fun :D
