My car a couple of months ago would make a "grinding" noise when I would start the car. One time the car wouldn't start at all...I would try and turn it over and it would just make a clicking noise. I let it sit for a second, and then it would start. After a month it went away, i figured the problem was gone. Well, about 2 weeks ago, the problem started again. It hesitates on start up, sometimes not turning over at all, and it makes the grinding noise when it finally starts.

And i still have an idling issue, the idle tends to drop so low when i come to a stop that my car stalls out on me. It only does this when the car is at operating temperature though.

Any guesses on what i need to fix or replace in order to make these problems go away?

-Thanks-

For the starting problem have the starter checked. Sounds like it is not engaing all the way and when it does it is staying engaged. The Idle sounds like someone adjusted the BISS to operating idle while the engine was still cold. Do a search for BISS adjustment and it will pull up ALOT of threads regarding this issue. :thumb:

So Yesterday I accidentally fixed both of my problems.

I was going into work from school, and I had noticed that recently my car has been running worse and worse, so I figured maybe something had come loose. So when i pulled into the parking lot I popped the hood and started looking around. I noticed some smoke coming from around my battery. I took a closer look and realized my wires coming from my battery to my fuse box( I guess my hot wires) were melted/ burnt and still smoking. So I immediately turned off the car, unhooked all my battery wires, and went to work(actual work, not work on the car). It looked like the nut that was holding the two separate ends of the wire together on the positive terminal was loose, allowing the wires to separate and come back together, causing it to arc, guess it happened enough times to cause some major damage.

I work for a trucking company, and they have a huge shop with everything you would possibly need to fix a car :thumb: , so luckily I noticed my problem there. After work I pushed my car underneath a light with the help of my friends and went to work on the wires, cutting off the bad wire, and splicing on new wires, I eventually replaced all the wire after an hour of work.

The Car no longer has any problem on stat up, it actually starts up better than ever. When coming to a stop, the car no longer stalls on me. My lights also used to dim when my rpm's would go down or when I would hit the brakes. That no longer happens either!!
So I guess its a good thing I caught this problem when I did, that could have been really dangerous, with stuff catching on fire in my engine and all :notgood:
