Hey i just installed the upper intercooler piping setup i bought, haven't gotten to lower yet. I just took it for a spin and now it is bucking crazy, and stalled out a couple of times. I then tightened up the coupler connecting to the intercooler, i drove it and it seemed ok for a few seconds, i stepped on it and i heard a kinda pop sound, and then it bucked crazy again and i could hardly drive it back. I checked that coupler again and it is still all tight and all. I checked all the other ones and they all feel tight. What i did notice is that the piping is not beaded on the edges. Would this make it definitely leak under boost? I know i should check for boost leak, but everything is tight and all. The idle got all messed up also, would bounce up and down. I do have it recirculated, but it seems like the recirculation tube might be a little bit bent with the new location of the 1g bov. The flange for the 1g is welded on so that would not be leaking there and i rtv'd the flange to the 1g bov. Would this still be just a boost leak problem most likely? Could it be from the mas plug getting messed up during the install? It is an extremely tight squeeze to fit it between the fuse box and the intake pipe and filter i got on it.

Any help would be much appreciated as i need to drive this first thing in the morning.
Also I read somewhere that on the lower intercooler piping there is a resevoir attached which i saw, that can just be hacked off cause it is a muffler for the turbo noise? Is that correct?

Ryan.

Oh this is the link for the one i got and how it is supped to sit when installed.

Ok the hairspray technique seems pretty good. Worried about when I want to take it off, but I'm sure it's nothing I can't handle. For now I still have had no problems after going over every connection and making sure it was clamped down real well.
One question I still have is, now the idle seems to be slightly off. Would that still be a small boost leak issue most likely? It is not bad really, just seems to drop a little under 750 once in a while and give a little more vibration. My engine has always idled perfect till now. I don't know if that is just because of the hard pipes allowing more flow freely or what.(my first turbo car so new to boost leak problems)

But I have been giving it some nice pulls now and seems to be holding really well for just regular couplers and clamps. I am definitely going to be going with some t-bolt clamps and probably some hair spray as well.

So did you ever actually perform a boost leak test? Just because the clamps are tight doesn't mean they are air tight.

Yeah I did do one day before yesterday. I thought I fixed everything and I didn't notice anymore leaks. It seems to be basically all better, but seems to be a little idle wobble now. It is very minimal, but still some. I tested again after I first drove it and no boost leaks where found that I could tell. I am just wondering if the idle could be affected by just having hard pipes instead of the flexible crap stock ones. Like i said it is very minimal but still noticeable.

96gstdsm, How in the world did you get this kit to fit? I tried and tried but I absolutely couldn't get this kit to fit into place. do you have any pictures of the install or anything?

thanks,
adam

Hey yeah it took a good bit of work to get it to fit. I also had to buy a new reducer coupler so I could attach it to the turbo for the lower intercooler pipe.
It was a really crappy design and everything though. I can take some pics when I get my car back from an engine swap. My definitely vibrates now against the hole for the upper intercooler pipe. Sounds terrible. The couplers have also popped off numerous times. Worst purchase I have ever made for my dsm!
Half the price of the ssautochrome fmic too.

Where are you having trouble having it fit?

It wouldn't come off of the intercooler right and when I put the second piece on with the flange it was pointing at the battery, not anywhere close to the TB elbow. the brace to hold the fuse box also got in the way. It just really didn't want to fit on there. That was also my worst purchase ever. I got a refund through paypal though. I got the e-mail telling me im getting my money back this morning :D so im pretty pumped about that. I was thinking of going with Punishment Racing's kit but I don't want any more problems like this. also like you said maybe just go with a FMIC but I have the stock T25 and don't know if I will be upgrading any time soon so I don't know if it is worth it. I have the money for a Evo3 16g but I'm 17 and am not good enough to do a turbo swap quite yet. so I'm looking for a local garage that knows their turbo's and would be able to install it all.
