Power steering cutting in and out

OK so its starting to get worse the more it gets cold outside but sometimes just randomly the power steering just seems to die and then its extremely hard to steer the damn car....it happens mostly going around slow turns....i checked my resivore for power steering fluid and its good...actually there was a bit over max in it cold so i took some out....but could my pump be going?

It could very well be the pump going, or it could also be the belt powering the pump slipping?

It could be the pump, but I'm very confident that your steering rack is going out. I've experienced this twice, in two different cars. Both ended up being the rack. Soon you'll have it going in and out quite a bit. If you ask me, going from power steering to cracking it manually is night and day difference. You could seriously cause some damage, especially when parking (which scarred me a few times).

hmm so how hard is that to replace ....i just looked at some rebuilt ones on ebay and theyre not too bad price wise but are they a real pain to install?
