im lookin at purchasing a 91 TSI and it has a high idle and runs rich. im just wondering some possible reasons for the rich condition. im goin to try to change the MAF to see if thats the cause. could it be the ECU? HELP ME OUT

well then its the turbo housing...it would probably be a good idea for me to replace them both but kieth told me that the exhaust mani was cracked. im still learning.

the exhaust manifold isnt cracked just the top layer or rust or something looks as tho it is. nothing should be cracked. just go to mitsu for the bolts..when u get the chance bring the plates cool

It is definately cracked. Smoke was rolling out of the crack in the manifold and the turbine housing while we were working on it.

I think the bolts to the o2 housing would be a 10mmx1.25. You can get some from NAPA. I will check tomorrow, I think I might have a few lying around.

i was talkin with a guy in advanced auto an he was tellin me about a product that can patch the leaks. but i dont know about it...what he said was its high heat resistant and after applied it gets really hard. i might try, but just wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

I dont know of any epoxy type materials that will hold up to the heat of an exhaust manifold. Most will crack, melt, or ash if exsposed to temps above 300*f.

I do have a couple of bolts that will work for you o2 housing to downpipe connection. Just pm or call me and I will try to get them to you.

yea ill b there....if possible could you bring nuts for them too. LOL seriously man...your helping me out sooo much..cant tell you how much this is helping me. :thumb:

alright. hooked up exhaust today. took it down the road to see how she was now. did better. built boost find. under more moderate accelleration at about 4 grand it popped. prolly the gas is to blame for that. after that idling kept fallin like it wanted to cut off. i had to rev it high just to keep it from cutting off.

haha im too poor for dealership parts. looks like im goin to scavenge the junkyard :notgood: o well...ill do what i have to i guess. should have bought a honda :shhh:

i just got some JB WELD that im goin to try to use on the exhaust mani an turbine housing. its used for repairing cracked engine blocks so it should work for me. its a cold weld. has anyone used JB WELD for our cars?

tomorrow afternoon im goin to see how she runs now that the cracks are filled. hopefully itll be better. if not...back to troubleshooting.

ok...drove it today...did fine out of my driveway and down the road but once i gave it a little more gas it started acting up again. when i got home i checked it and the JB WELD was coming off of where i put it. but when it was holding it did alot better. but i really dont think that gettin a new exhaust manifold and turbine housing is goin to fix my problems.
