Ok, I can start with some background info, or you can skip below to the actual problem:

Background:[/
I am very uneducated with DSM's. I know basic stuff about cars, not all the tech. stuff involved in my Laser.

Here is what happened.....I moved from Illinois to oregon, paid to get my car moved, got robbed by first company (owner is in jail for his scam biz) hired a new company 4 months later, it got burned a bit in a freak car carrier accident, but finally got here.

So...why did I type all that background? I was HAPPY as heck to see my beautiful Laser again. I warmed her up for a few days, took her slowly as she hadn't been driven in months. After a week I went back to my old Turbo days, and started pushing her. It was insanely fast. Engine was rebuilt at 140,000 miles, including new Turbo, and only has 10k sinc. The car ran gooooood.

Problem:
Anyways.....a few weeks ago I was having fun in the car, scaring my gf, by driving up hills (big hills here in Oregon) and then letting the car roll down backwards......letting go of the clutch just in time. Did this a few times, really pushing the car, revving it up to 5k. Roll down.....rev it up as it moved backwards still.....

The car had a weird feel right afterwards...so I quit, and just drove normal. It felt a tiny, tad, wee bit sluggish, not really noticeable. So, we drove around a bit....and went to car lot. My gf was buying a new car, dont want to say what kind on this forum. (not Mitsubishi...) So paperwork, etc...we get out 3 hours later, my car sat for the 3hours.

I start my car...and it goes KLANK< KLANK< KLANK with the car shaking a bit! And didnt start!! I was like....NOOOOOOOOOO, what did I do. I let it sit for one minute.....and started it again....and it started like normal. I drove it home, and it felt ok. But the next day......and for the past few weeks...now....it's not the same car.

I hear a small tick when I first start it, for about 4 minutes, and then it goes away...sounds like lifter tick. ?

And I have basically NO TURBO. The turbo spools still, I can hear it....and it sloooooowly builds up turbo, but climbs almost all the way up to 14psi, and you can barely feel the pull at all. Before it barely could reach 7psi, and it was snapping your neck back the whole time.

Anyone have any idea what stupid thing I did to my car? I feel like a numbnut for messing it up, and probably going to spend money to fix it, which makes feel more dumb for causing the problem.

Any ideas or help is appreciated. I'm not a mechanic at all....can do basic stuff only...have almost no tools, and no garage, and really not too much free time (work 60+ hours a week.) But if I can get some general ideas, maybe I can look up fix-its at vfaq.com, or maybe take the ideas to a shop and get ripped off.

Thank you all very much! :(

Ahh, I see the problem...your car thought you were selling her and gettin a new one!! I hate that problem :p

Anyways, have you checked play in the turbo? I don't really see how rolling down a hill and letting the clutch out would damage a turbo, but its never a bad thing to check shaft play anyways.

Was it smoking at all? Any weird smells? How does the clutch feel?

As for the ticking, alot of DSMs I know of get a bit of ticking from the head on startup...just one of those things.

Pull your intake off and try to wiggle the compressor wheel around. If it is moving around a lot, get it rebuilt/upgrade.

hmmmmm that sounds like that might have something to do with it?

im gonna go out on a limb and say he possibly jumped timing.

other than that maybe it just feels slow cause youre butt-dyno got used to it. time for more mods.

"Was it smoking at all? Any weird smells? How does the clutch feel?"

Thanks for the initial advice.

There was no smoke at all...no weird smells...and the clutch feels awesome. (The clutch was replaced along with the engine rebuild, new turbo, etc about 30k miles ago.)

The only unusual happening is leaving the dealership, I started it...and KLANK< KLANK< KLANK. Sounded like some HEAVY hitting going on, car even shook from it. Maybe the timing belt did slip initially, and luckily got back on track???? My car never ticked before this. The ticking isn't bad, pretty low, but on a rebuilt engine so young?

I will look into the Turbo play, and post results here. I may need a couple days. I work 4 days a week from 2pm-3am....so I'm pretty busy these next 4 days.

Thanks everyone,

David
