I was wondering what all of your opinion are on porting the T-25. I am going to be getting a new T-25 soon and would like to know if there will be any performance advantages/disadvantages to porting the stock turbo. I was looking at the old one that I took out and the whole thing seemed to be pretty restrictive. I know that porting the thing will give me faster spool times, not really a problem with a T-25 anyway, but I don't know if there is any downside to it.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but if you are switching turbos anyway please don't put on another T-25 :)

It was real cheap, and I didn't have a lot of money laying around for a more expensive turbo.

But, back to the question, will the turbo like overheat or anything if it is ported out.

Best porting method for a T-25:

1. Douse in gasoline
2. Light on fire
3. Throw into a dumpster full of old Christmas trees
4. Watch blaze
5. Drive home
6. Buy a different turbo

Since no one will give you an honest answer..

Yes you can port everything out to the max, But i'm not sure if it would make that much of a difference, The t-25 already spools so fast. Porting should be less then $6.00 if you have a drill, You just need the bits. The turbo will not overheat if you port it out.

you should realy go to a 14b or bigger, the 14b still has good spool. but till you have the money you can practice your porting skill on the t25. but dont spend money on getting it ported

ah, if you are going to port anything with a drill, I hope your calendar is clear until 2005, you might be done by then.

If you are thinking of porting anything, do yourself a favor and atleast buy an electric die grinder (unless you have a compressor, then get a air die grinder) and some double cut carbide bits, check on Ebay! :thumb:

Air tools would be optimal.

Porting won't hurt it one bit.

You people should just answer the question, I'm sure he realizes the T25 sucks.

Ya I know know that the T-25 sucks but I just needed to know if it would overheat if I ported it out. After all, I did heat over on the nitrous board that it would melt pretty quick if you tried to use a spray with it.

I dont know, I ported 3 exhaust manifolds, 2 o2 housings, and 4 turbos already, Using an electric drill with these bits from lowes. The last exhaust manifold I ported I found these metal bits and they ate the metal right away, As soon as it hit the metal it would get it really good. It didnt take really long.

I wouldnt bother porting it, i mean it really is going to make no difference at all. I ported an o2 housing and 2 turbos with a nice carbide double cut bit i bought at www.carbidebur.com and it was pretty easy, i used a air die grinder.

So you don't think that porting the turbo will decrease spool time much?
The thing looks pretty restrictive to me. Has any one actually taken a T-25 off there car, ported it and then put it back on. I don't want to wast my time with the drill if it isn't really going to do me much good.

Seriously guy, why even go through the several hours of work just to remove and then reinstall a T25 all over again? That alone wouldn't be worth while. Let alone porting it. But to answer the question I think it would help but it wouldn't be very noticable.

If you read though the rest, I am getting a new T-25 and thought that I might be able to squeze a little more performance out of it by porting it.

It's not like I am taking one out just to port it. I will be getting a new one and thought that it might be a good idea to port it before it whent in.

I read through it, my point still stands. Why bother replacing it with another T25? Again not worth the time. I would upgarde your turbo. Go with a 14, T28 or Big T28. Hell I'll sell you my old BigT28 looks just like a T25. The thought of you or anyone going through the work for a T25?? :( But if thats what you want go for it. Just trying to help you out.

Well, it's not like its going to stay in there forever. I just needed to get a turbo in so I can drive my car again.

BTY I'm pretty broke right now, but how much for a T-28?

Not sure what they go for new, just shop around...another option might be to send in your old T25 and have it converted to a T28 or BigT28 for 250-300.

So, When I feel like upgrading I can get the parts to convert my T-25 To a T-28 for 300 or so? Where whould I pick up these parts? I gave my old turbo to one of my friends and he might be interested in this.

You can have it sent in and done for $250 - $300. Call up AGP or Forced Performance or who ever you like. Since they have to machine or replace the T25 housing to accept a T3 compressor wheel I don't think anyone would be able to do that on thier own.

I take that back...Forced is more like 599 but I bet if you shop around you can have it done for less.

I was told that porting always takes forever. About how long would it take to port an exhaust manifold with an air die grinder?

Five hours for me. My friend did his in three hours, but he ports more stuff than I do.
