For those of you who've known me for awhile you know that I've been working on a poor-man's fmic for awhile. With a little help from local club members and dejon tool I've finally finished it. Today I finally had a chance to get together with Travis from Street Scenes to get the beast welded together. Core measures 24 3/4" x 4" x 6". It's far from beautiful with the three separate cores, but it'll cool the hell out of the 14b and anything up to a 20g should be fine.

how much was the final cost?

Well the welding was a favor so at the end i'm pretty sure it was right around $50 :thumb:

Nice going Kyle. Form over function, but that's what counts!

Happy boosting and let me know when the next meet is so I can see this thing in person.

nice,you need to sell them.

Dejontool used to, there's a reason they don't anymore. Getting all 3 to seal up is a pain in the ass and so is all the fabrication and cutting down of the stock intercoolers. If you payed someone $7/hour to do all the labor you could buy hks pipes and core for the time they'd have in it. The thing is though that I have that free time to get it done.

Just a little update for you guys.

Car is down for a transmission rebuild. In the meantime though the cooler is mounted and the piping has been routed and laid out. Welding should take place on the piping very soon. Bumper had to be trimmed mildly and the front bumper core is totally gone from the car, but with the 3 bolts in the middle and one on each side it doesn't sag at all.

Actually looks really good, especially on the car and seems to fit the mouth of our 1g bumper rather well! You get a thumbs up from me :thumb:

Can't wait to see how she cools... Keep us posted!

You are going to need more then that to beat me at the shootout this year. :D

Looks nice though and was definitely cheaper then my FMIC. Just get a smooth transmission and you'll be rockin'.

Well even if I have the tranny in you've still got the cams, turbo, and that whole pesky little awd advantage over me. If you wanna autocross them though we'll talk. Combined times from 1/4 mile to autox to determine overall winner, how's that sound :sneaky:

looks pretty good,It would be a great improvement from the side mounted stocker .
how did you put it together?

Well it started out with 3 sidemounts, cut them down to what you'll see here.

Had them welded together nice and level, added endtanks made of aluminum and 2.5" aluminum tubing and had that all welded to it. Core has only shown two small leaks that I took care of with a little bit of JB Weld and it still needs final pressure testing.

That looks really nice and professional. Are your ic pipes painted or powerdercoated?

Pipes are painted cheaply with a little primer, and then duplicolor's metalcast system of a silver base, blue top coat, and then a coat or two of clear. They could've been done better, but they'll do for me. It's the same system I used on my valve cover so it matches nicely underneath the hood.
